The MC2 Motorola CelIuIar Telephone Modem is a practical solution to your data communications requirements. Since this celIular enhanced modem is housed in a 3-watt celluIar AMPS transceiver, it provides you with both circuit switched data transrnission and celIular voice communication. This integrated package provides internaI modem wiring 50 that there is no excess cabling to struggle with.

Cellular Telephone Modem Specifications

The MC2 Motorola CelJular Telephone Modem is a .bis modem with V.42bis error correetion and

L .~tion which provides 4:1 compression capability. It complies with error correction standards ensuring an easy transmission with land-line equipment. The data cornrnunications interface between the MC2 Motorola CelluIar Telephone Modem and your data terminal or computer is RS232. The connector for the data terminal is a standard DB 9 on this modem. The Hayes AT cornrnand structure is used. Therefore, this modem is compatible with any standard ccrrr V.22bis and V.42bis land-line modem that is not using proprietary methods.

Superior Cellular Data Transmission Capability

Motorola has incorporated patent pending enhancements into this modem transceiver to provide reliable transmission over the U.S. AMPS CelluIar Network. This modem was designed to handle unique cellular system characteristics such as hand­off and noise distortion. In addition, Motorela has developed additional Hayes AT type messages enabling the MC2 CelIuIar Telephone Modem to tell your data equipment celluIar specific information such as roam status, no service condition, received signal strength leveI and intercept and reorder information. This cellular specific information is in addition to the normal modem inforrnation provided in a conneet sequence. The cellular enhanced equalizer improves the physicallink to the land-line modem which compensates for celluIar induced irnpairments. Your existing land-line modem doesn't need any such enhancements thus encouraging irnmediate data exchange. Cellular Voice Communicatíons

•• ds MC2 MotoroIa Cellular Telephone Modem provides celluIar voice communication capability as well. This transceiver is available in a carry phone configuration with all of the features associated with a celluIar telephone. The modem doesn't affect any of the cellular features such as on-hook dialing or hands free operation. This optional configuration includes the transceiver, bag, handset, cigarette lighter adapter and antenna. This phone also offers optional battery operation. The carry phone configuration allows for true portability since the unit can be carried from vehicle to vehicle or used in an outdoor setting.

MC2 Motorola Cellular Modem

The UOS Motorola cellular modem provides an integrated solution for your portable data communi­cations needs. The cellular modem is a Y.22bis modem with Y.42bis error correction and data com­pressiono Completely compatible with any modem that complies with the CCITT Y.22bis and Y.42bis standards, the modem pravides exceptional perfor­mance.

The modem is designed to be enclosed in the same package with a Motorala mobile data ready cellular telephone, eliminating the mechanical problems of interconnect wiring. To reduce interference prob­lems caused by alternator hum and power transients, the modem derives its power from the telephone's filtered power circuits.

The modem operates using CCITT Y.22bis, Y. 22, Be1l 212A and 103 modulation with VA2 and Y. 42bis errar correction and data compression, enhanced for cellular operation . However, the enhancements do not interfere wi th the modem's CCITT compliance.

The modem is des igned to communicate with the ce llular telephone. The modem can ensure that the telephone is data ready and in service without man­ual intervention. AIso, the modem can query the telephone for receive signal strength before the call is placed. An extended series of AT commands is used to pass the status information to the user.

An enhanced AT command se t allows modem con­trol by an externaI OTE. The OB-9 connector uses EIA-232C signallevels to communica te with the local DTE.
