The Memory Challenge

One of the biggest challenges we face as human beings is the capacity to remember

information after engaging with it a handful of times. Our brains are designed to keep only

the most relevant bits of information, everything else is stored deeper inside our memory

banks making it harder to retrieve.

Research spanning more than a century has taught us that the best way to learn involves

engaging with learning content regularly to ensure it sticks. Purposefully rerouting neural

pathways through repetition and multimodal learning has proven itself to yield the best

results.

Unfortunately, staff training at large has yet to embrace this form of learning and has relied

on personal accountability of the trainee to ensure the learned content is remembered and

applied in their workflows.

Habify solves this critical challenge through habit-based learning Habify is easy to implement, cost-effective and because its a standalone system, it works in

unison with your existing training material and any software you are using.

The Tech Behind Habify The Habify experience will delight users with its intuitive interface and it will seamlessly

integrate with any LMS or training software. The technology behind Habify is nothing short of

prodigious with a century of neuroscience research fused with some of the smartest tech

currently available. This is our tech journey to date:

TECH PHASE 01 - Completed 2019

The first phase of development saw the creation of the Habify app to work exclusively

with corporate training company Coach On Call's training products. This provided an

edge in the market, allowing the company to establish itself as the only company

worldwide to offer Habit-based Learning and guarantee ROI for training spend.

TECH PHASE 02 - Completed 2020

The second and current phase of development introduced the option for clients to

have their own training material integrated into the Habify platform. This has allowed

rapid adoption of Habit-based Learning as the capital outlay is low and clients get

significantly better results for training, almost immediately. This phase has been

made available to South African clients only.

TECH PHASE 03

The third phase of our tech expansion lies in the development of our SaaS platform.

Currently, in the last phases of development, this phase will allow both clients and

training companies (users) to utilise Habify for their respective training needs.

By March 2021 users will be able to log in to our cloud-based platform, upload their

training content and run Habify seamlessly to multiple trainees globally. This phase

will see Habit-based Learning becoming an industry standard for training across the

spectrum of disciplines.

Psychological Edge The human mind is remarkably powerful and adapts easily to environmental stimuli. Humans

are creatures of comfort and easily slip into comfortable, albeit non-rewarding, patterns of

behaviour. We tend to create habits by default and not by consciously choosing to do so.

With all the advantages of technology, however, one major obstacle stands in the way of real

results… accountability.

INTERVENTIONS

No matter how diligent and well-intentioned, we tend to get distracted when

attempting to complete a task. Learning is no different. Without being held

accountable we tend to waiver on tasks we know we need to complete. It's for this

very reason Habify has introduced an 'intervention' mechanism into the learning

process.

Unlike eLearning or Micro-learning - which relies on self-motivation and personal

discipline - Habify uses a unique intervention mechanism to hold participants

accountable, while also monitoring their progress. If the participant skips two days of

activity on the Habify app, an intervention is triggered and their supervisor is notified.

The supervisor then connects with the participant to offer constructive support to aid

the learning process. Interventions are key to ensuring the participant maximizes

his/her learning experience and results.

GAMIFICATION

Habify leverages the natural process of forming habits by virtue of the brain chemical,

dopamine. In gamifying learning content and triggering the reward centers of the

brain, trainees feel like they're having fun when completing tasks. Each daily content

engagement is short (4-13 minutes) and is followed with either a personalised

message of congratulations (for finishing in today's top three) or message of

motivation (to do better tomorrow).

Research indicates this type of microlearning yields better results if training outputs

are mixed effectively into the daily content… this is where Habify shines. Our team

works with the client's training material, using a proprietary content transfer formula -

ensuring high knowledge retention rates.

Habify is a 30/60/90 day process that creates a sustained exposure to the key

outputs from the training session/s.

The Science of Habify Habify's Habit-based Learning was developed because of the obvious shortcomings of

traditional staff training. Using Dr Ebbinghaus' 'Forgetting Curve' as a starting point,

Habit-based Learning was created to meet every possible demand that countered the

Forgetting Curve.

Ebbinghaus' Forgetting Curve Formula

R = e-t/s R refers to memory retention, S refers to the relative strength of memory, e refers to Euler’s number (used as the

basis of natural logarithmic functions) and t refers to time.

The research used in designing Habify includes the latest groundbreaking neuroscience

research papers and memory modeling, psychiatric and psychological peer-reviewed

research and input from specialists in industrial psychology.

Knowledge retention and retrieval are developed by stimulating the habit-forming center of

the brain, the Basal Ganglia. This is essential for long-term results and employee

performance. Using multimodal learning methods, the content is experienced by all key parts

of the brain. This creates deeper memory patterns of the learned material, allows quicker

knowledge retrieval and ensures higher rates of application.

The Habify Experience So, what's it like using Habit-based Learning? HBL is a 30, 60 or 90-day process

(determined by the type of training) that creates sustained exposure to the key outputs from

the training session/s. It creates an environment where the participant feels supported and

encouraged. The following is a typical HBL 5-step experience:

01. TRAINING

An experienced facilitator delivers either the clients own or one of our award-winning

training programs, either on-site or in our virtual training room. The learning

experience is dynamic, specific and engaging.

Page 8: The Memory Challengehabifylearning.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/HABIFY-Product-Guide.pdfthe learning process. Interventions are key to ensuring the participant maximizes his/her

02. ASSESSMENT

In the final hour of training, the participant downloads the Habify mobile app and

creates a unique login. They then select the corresponding training course via

workshop-specific code and complete an assessment of the workshop to benchmark

their knowledge level.

03. HABIT CREATION & APPLICATION

For the next 30, 60 or 90 days, the participant receives daily notifications on their

device requesting them to complete bite-sized, workshop-specific exercises.

These consist of true/false and multiple-choice questions of various learning

resources including short texts, video links, and articles. Within 14 days, the

participant has started developing training-related habits and knowledge retention is

high.

04. SECOND ASSESSMENT

On completion of the Habit-based Learning process, a final assessment is completed

and compared to the first assessment. This determines knowledge retention and is

portrayed in an individual, comprehensive graph-based report.

05. PERFORMANCE REPORT

This report highlights overall scores

for participation, knowledge retention,

training ROI and areas that may

require further development. It

indicates the number of interventions

required and ultimately encourages

participants to stay the course.

Those responsible for interventions

are given the opportunity to engage

with participants and build rapport in

a supportive manner.
