Student Council RearrangesPast Years Election System

In an effort to iron out the ^election difficulties of past years,Student Council has set up an election committee, under the chairmanship of Prances Balzer, to handle all school voting. This action isa result of a recommendation of last year 's Council. f 2Changes made by the committee call for voting for all officesto take place at a booth set. up in College Hall. This booth will becompletely run by the members of j this committee. The only officesexcepted from this|routine will be those which require hand votingand nomina t ions . &~

    Dean AsksSuggestionsFor Dorm

To meet the rising need for increased living space Ion campusMercyhurst will erect fa newdormitory in the near future,j Extending nor th and south between St. Luke's and the folderdorm, the proposed dormitory willopen onto the drivel which encircles the campus. -This modern three-story build-ing will be constructed! of bricksthat are matched to those of the|older dorm. The ground floor willj consist of a large lounge,!a gameI room, an d a sheltered terracewhich will open onto the grotto. In order to take advantage of theIcontour of the grounds, the bundling will be /built on th e split-level plan.Rooms inlthe new dorm will be12 feet by 16 feet. Along one sideof the room will be built-in furniture. This includes a Jwash basinset into a table, two large clothesfpresses and two sets of drawersj with mirrors above. Furnit ure willbe blonde birch and the I floorsj will be asphalt tile. Spacious win dows will add to the effect of theplanned decorations and lighting.A mock room will be set up herei soon for inspection by students.j Further plans and changes will bemade from your comments andl ideas .

J Unlike past years, f inal votingfor the president of StudentCouncil will be held^ like the primary, at the booth and not inthe Little Theatre after campaignspeeches. Student Council presidency elections are as follows:primaries on Wednesday, March12; campaign speeches by thenominators and nominees onWedn esday, March*. 26; final Ivot-ing on Thursday, March 27.The main advantages tha t

Council sees in the setup are thatelections will be held more in theorder of importance, mere will beno conflicts in election times, andfewer meetings and less time willbe required of the Student Bodyfor its convenience. Voting willtake place between 11 and 1o'clock on the days assigned. This year's procedure will notbe rigidly set for future years.Council has left tne committeefree to adjust elections to eachyear 's needs.Chairman Balzer warns that

the well-worked plan will notsucceed, however, "unless everyone cooperates," and she urgesthe use of wisdom in choosingcandidates.Riley * Hughes, professor ofEnglish at Georgetown University, will speak on "The 1 Novel and | l"on Thursday, April 17 at 1:00 p.m.Besides being th e! editor of "AllManner Of s Men", he has alsowritten "The Hills Were Liars",and contributed Uo "Amer ica / '"Commonweal," and "S aturdayReview."

If an award were given for "themost revolutionary man of theyear," Yves St. Laurent would undoubtedly receive the honor. Whois Yves St. Laurent? IWell, he isnot a French exchange studentto Gannon College, but rather theFrench designer-successor to thelate entrepreneur of fashion.Christian Dior. Striving for a complete revolution in feminine apparel, young Laurent outdid himself with his first creation. According to high fashion, the baggychemise has been outmoded bythe barrel trapeze! Are you feeling very much the peasant inyour Shetland crew and plaid?!

Positively Speaking:There was song popular someten to fifteen years ago entitled"Accentuate the Positive." It hada bouncy tune and some sillyverses, but the philosophy of thetitle was sound. Accentuated pos-itiveness would certainly changea student's outlook on everydayliving. The disease of complaining might become extinct andthen student association would bemore pleasurable. Practice looking for and then emphasizing th ebest in people. We wager that themajority will be happier; in fact,we I POSITIVELY guarantee it!
