The Mercy of Our Wounded Healer

Lent (the church year season which precedes Easter) arrives and once

again we are shown the picture of Grace and Mercy at the Cross. We read and

tell and listen and recount the narrative of God’s never failing love shown in the Son Who gave His all. Let’s

look at our Savior. Let’s tune our ears to hear of the great grace in Scripture, in song, in study and worship.

Christ was wounded – So we could all be healed.

Jesus walked the road of obedience, trusting His Heavenly Father, yielding to God’s everlasting arms

to be carried… to betrayal, arrest, trial, humiliation, condemnation, whipping, mocking, then on to the

Cross…

And the grave….

And…

On to Life.

We walk on together with our Lord and one another – sharing in “Life Together,” as Dietrich Bonhoeffer,

pastor, theologian and anti-Nazi dissident said. We walk together in faith as a cohesive church community.

Walking in trust to the Cross is not an easy, pleasant stroll. We trudge forward. We are pulled by hope. We

put one faithful foot in front of the other and we intentionally recognize our Redeemer with us – stride for

stride. I believe my life belongs to the whole community. Moravians celebrate a communal faith and a

conferential practice of being church. It is good to walk on together, even when we progress towards the old

rugged Cross.

Isaiah, the prophet wrote:

“Surely he took our infirmities and

Carried our sorrows… he was crushed for our iniquities,

The punishment that brought us peace was upon him…

By his wounds we are healed.” 53:4-5

We walk forward seeking peace in healing. God grants us peace and heals our souls. Christ was wounded –

so we can all be healed!

Our congregation, our church council, the joint boards, our faith community staff, our Sunday school, our

Moravian Women’s circles, Bible studies, confirmation class… all of us in Christ Life Together – walk on in

faith and trust. I invite you to join us in this march with the Master.

My prayer is that we walk on together in praise of the Redeemer who pours out healing power in his

woundedness. May we each note and know for certain that God makes well our sick souls. Every step of the

way – our Savior leads us.

Walking with you, darrell – lead servant, first follower
