The winning difference of over two and a half million popular votes and

getting more than three hundred electoral votes for President Obama must have been a surprise to a lot of political pundits. President Obama will continue to lead our nation for another four years, and we continue

to have checks and balances in our legislature as the Republicans maintain control of the House and the Democrats retain control of the

U.S. Senate.

One of the interesting things I found about the election is that President

Obama's coming out of the closet in support of gay marriage did not make any difference to the American electorate. In Maine and Maryland, voters approved same-sex unions. Maine reversed its 2009 vote against

it. The same measure was on the Washington ballot, and as of Wednesday early morning, the measure is winning by about 52%. While

Minnesota does not allow gay marriage, voters rejected the measure of defining marriage as the union between a man and a woman in their constitution. Continued on page 2

The future after the election of 2012 continued... President Obama's radical support of abortion was also not an issue with voters but

has far reaching consequences because of his chance of filling more Supreme Court seats with justices who agree with his position. Or another way of interpreting it is

that a majority of Americans support abortion.

These important moral issues and others like the legalization of marijuana in states like Colorado, Oregon and Washington are more than incremental shifts in our

nation's moral underpinnings. We are very far removed from our beginnings as a

nation founded on Judeo-Christian values. So how is the Church supposed to respond?

First, the Church must repent of its sins and walk in holiness. We must quit taking

God and His ways for granted. We must love the Lord our God more than we love sports, money, success, and more than our lives. We must repent of our sin of

blurring the line between our allegiance to God and our patriotism. God has blessed our country greatly, but His covenant is with His Church, not with the United States.

Jesus said that He will build his church and even the gates of hell shall not prevent its onslaught. He did not say anything about the United States. To confuse the two is

not only bad theology but dangerous living.

Second, God commanded us to pray for our leaders. “First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for

kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life,

godly and dignified in every way. This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the

truth.” (1 Timothy 4:1-4). It is our sacred duty to pray for President Obama and his cabinet, for Vice-president Biden, for our congressmen and our senators, and for the

justices of the Supreme Court. We pray and we remember that God “desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.” God's glory

accomplished in His redemptive plan must be the ultimate goal of our prayers.

Third, we need to recognize that the re-shifting of the moral direction of our country

cannot be done by legislative measures nor by government fiat. It is our biblical duty to champion the cause of the weak and the helpless by drawing the line in our

communities and our nation on these moral issues. However, if the basic moral fabric of our nation is to be recaptured, it must be done through the Gospel of the Lord

Jesus Christ, lived out and proclaimed by the Church. Morality is nothing more than the outward manifestation of the condition of the heart, and unless a person's heart is

changed by the gospel, his morals will be adrift.

It is a new day in America. My prayer is that it is the dawning of a bright new day for the Church, where we see more clearly who we are and why Jesus redeemed us.

There is everything good to look forward to when our Father, the sovereign God, is the One in charge. He already told us what He is doing through history. We can

already anticipate the glorious consummation of the ages. He promises strength and guidance every step of the way.

The future after the election of 2012 conclusion... “Remember the former things, those of long ago; I am God,

and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me. I make known the end from the beginning, from ancient times,

what is still to come. I say: My purpose will stand, and I will do

all that I please... What I have said, that will I bring about; what

I have planned, that will I do... I am bringing my righteousness

near, it is not far away; and my salvation will not be delayed.”

Isaiah 46:9-11, 13

May our response be the response of the prophet Habakkuk:

“Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce

no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will be joyful in God

my Savior. The Sovereign LORD is my strength; he makes my feet like the feet of a deer, he enables me to go on the heights.”

Habakkuk 3:17-19

Our AWANA clubs need our help collect-ing new or gently used items for the AWANA store. Several times a year, stu-dents are allowed to “buy” items from the store with “shares” they earn by completing sections in their workbooks and memorizing scriptures. The first Wednesday in December, they have their Christmas store and are encour-aged to purchase gifts for all their family members and friends. There are collec-tion boxes in the foyer and in the office hallway. If you have any questions, please contact Vickie LeWallen (895-0330) or the church office.

We are having another exciting year in our KIDS’ CHOIR. It is open to all students grades K-5th. We meet Sunday evenings at 6PM

in the AWANA Assembly Room. This year’s directors are Stacy Stephenson, Ashley Minor, and Amanda Shirley. Come join us as we learn our Christmas musical, “Signs of Christmas”!
