Mission Statement
To bring all people to unitywith God and each other inChrist by providing a safe andloving environment, recogniz-ing community diversity, andsharing God’s gifts within theAnglican Tradition.
Dear Friends in Christ,
He’s back!
Thanks be to God for bringing Father Barry back safe from his travels. In as much as I was happy forhim to have some time away for rest and rejuvenation, I’m equally happy to have him back. I’m surehe has much to share with us and I look forward to hearing.
Those of you who did not attend the “Welcome Back Dinner” on the 26th missed a really grand event. Thanks to Joann Blackstock and her crew, we were all treated like royalty. I am grateful to them fortheir generous spirits.
Continuing with the 50th Anniversary Project, next on the agenda is the wrap-up all-church retreat onSaturday, August 23rd at Clayton State University Continuing Education Building. I hope to see manyof you in attendance there. Father Raymond Gotko, Priest Associate at St. James, Marietta, will be thefacilitator. We will begin with breakfast at 9:00 a.m.; lunch will be served at 12:00, and a late after-noon snack. Reservations are needed by Monday, August 18 so that we can have an accurate count forfood. Funds from the Lilly Foundation Grant will cover the cost so there will be no charge to you forattending this event. Do plan to be there so that we can continue the dialogue about the future of St.Augustine’s.
There are three vacancies on the vestry, and on Sunday, August 3rd, during the 10:00 a.m. First Sun-day Breakfast, we will hold elections to fill these positions. Franklin Douglas, Phil Kyle, and WesleyWilliams have served us faithfully for the past three years, and we are thankful to God and to them fortheir service.
Looking ahead to the fall, I trust you have Saturday, October 11 marked on your calendar for the Au-tumn Faire. There are sign-up sheets in the Parish Hall for the various activities. Do stop by and signup. Proceeds from the Faire this year will go to Securus House and Holy Comforter. Let’s make thisone the biggest and best ever!
Grace and peace,
Veronica Ridenhour

that need correction, or if you havequestions on how the data is pre-sented, please feel free to ask us any-time. It sure is easier to fix errors atmid year than at income tax time nextyear. And while you are examiningthe statement, determine if your com-mitment is current. Sure hope it is.
We would like to thank those thatare making significant efforts tobring their pledges up to date.June turned out to be a pretty goodmonth. In terms of contributions,it was the second largest of theyear. March, with Easter, was sig-nificantly larger than June. One ofthe reasons that June was prettygood is, as Deborah mentioned,
that there were five Sundays. Anotherreason is, as we said in the first sen-tence, is that we are slowly making upfor lost ground.
By the time these comments are read, you will have received your 2nd Quar-ter Contribution Statement. Pleasereview it carefully. If there are areas

butions don’t pick up. Looking for-ward to Fr. Barry’s return from sabbati-cal, and then school resuming in theFall; perhaps attendance (and contribu-tions) will take an upward turn. With 6more months in the year, we just maysqueak by…
What the numbers are saying:With 5 Sundays in the month ofJune, contributions exceeded themonthly projection by $1,719 andexpenditures came in $1,003 belowbudget for a month-to-date surplusof $2,722. Year-to-date, however, our contributions are lagging by$4,388, while expenses are well be-low budget by $4,172. The overallresult is that we are ‘in the hole’ by$216 at the half-year mark.
What the numbers do not tell us:Actually, the numbers tell us everythingthere is to know. Contributions aredown. So is spending. But we are be-low the ‘break-even’ point by $216. OurReserve/Rainy Day Fund is holdingsteady at the moment. On the onehand, that’s good because we haven’thad to tap into it just yet. On the otherhand, it isn’t growing much either, is stillshort of its goal by over $9,000, and mayneed to be drawn upon in July if contri-

“In all of this healing and challenging, Je-sus was embodying his central message ofthe reign of God. He demonstrated that itwas a dynamic relationship of deep trust inGod and loving solidarity among people. He made no distinction between the spiri-tual and physical or social needs for heal-ing. The salvation he brought was a free-dom for the whole person which brought
his disciples into community with oth-ers in a new way. This community wasmotivated with such compassion thatits members held their material re-sources in common. People outside thecommunity commented, “Look howthey love one another,” as a response tothe new creation which Jesus had be-gun in their midst.” --- Education for

A reminder about our Bishops' Blog from Lambeth ...
Before the weekend starts, I want to remind you -- and encourage you to pass along to yourparishes -- that our bishops are sharing blogging responsibilities while they are at the LambethConference. Their goal is to post something daily, time and Internet connection permitting. Wemay even receive some photographs.
There is a link to their blog, titled "A Lambeth Journal," on the main page of the diocesan web-site, episcopalatlanta.org. Feel free to create a link from your parish's website. The address iswww.lambethjournal.blogspot.com. You also might want to bookmark this link to make it easierto find later.
Last evening, Bishop Alexander posted an informative wrap-up of his first several days, whichincluded a visit to the Diocese of Portsmouth and the opening of the conference. The confer-ence continues 17 more days, ending Sunday, Aug. 3.
Don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions. I hope you are having an enjoyable andrestorative summer!
