New this month—starting in June, we are including the minutes of the most recent council meetings for all congregations. Please note, these are the minutes submitted by the secretary after the meeting; if there are errors or corrections needed, the councils will amend them as needed at their next council meeting.

Vacation Bible School Registration & Info on last page of this newsletter.

VBS Sundays where we’ll share a few songs that kids learned at VBS this summer. • June 23, Our Savior’s • July 28, Emmanuel and Nazareth

Malawi 20 for 20—Wells in Malawi This summer, our VBS offering will be going to build wells in Ma-lawi, Africa. The Northwest Synod of Wisconsin is celebrating 20 years of partnership with the Lutheran Church in Malawi; thus, we are helping to raise $20,000 to honor the 20 years of partner-ship, which will build two new wells!

And, did you know? 2019 is the 125th Anniversary of vacation Bible schools in the United States. Mrs. D.T. Miles held the first vacation Bible school in 1894 in Hopedale, IL; Mrs. Miles and her team led 20 days of VBS, spread over 4 weeks in May and June.

How to reach Pastor Elizabeth

Cell #: 715-255-0013 Email: [email protected]

Emergency calls overnight: Overnight, you will need to call my cell phone two times in a row to ring through my “do not disturb” feature.

Social Media: Feel free to add/follow me; FB—Elizabeth Bier; Insta—revelizabeth001; Snapchat—revelizabeth1

From Pastor Elizabeth

Greetings church!

What does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?”

Micah 6:8

This is one of my favorite Bible passages. One of the reason is because it gets me asking questions like: what does justice, kindness and humbleness look like in my walk with God?

I am calling for your questions—about faith, the Bible, Jesus’ child-hood, living a Christian life, etc. I will explore our questions in to my preaching this summer. You may call, email or put them in the offering plate at church.

My Mutual Ministry team is up and running. This team has at least two members from each congregation and is a place for me to learn, process and brainstorm as pastor of ONE in Christ Parish.

Hopefully, you feel comfortable to come to me directly with questions or wonderings about the parish and/or my leadership. However, if you are not comfortable doing so, or want to make sure that I know the history of particular issues in your congregation or community, feel free to mention it to one of the people on my Mutual Ministry team for them to bring it to one of our monthly meetings.

Here are the names of the members: Our Savior’s: Brenda Noah, Diane & Matt DelFatti Nazareth: Lyle Roe, Darin VenRooy Emmanuel: Sue Eloranta, Loralee Petersen

And lastly, here’s a fun fact—I might have distant relatives in the Greenwood area! My maiden name is Speich, and my mom’s side is related to Kind’s west of here in Wisconsin. I’ll be investigating these connections in the coming months and will keep you posted!

Parish Updates

From Kay Roe, former parish secretary. Kay thanks everyone who has sent her cards and for all of your prayers for healing. She appreciates everyone so much.

And, we give thanks for Kay as well, for her many faithful years as parish secretary and her continued volunteer service at Nazareth as financial secretary.

SECOND SATURDAYS, 10AM, JUNE 8 Prayer & Dwelling in the Word

Join us the second Saturday of each month to seek God's guidance for where we are headed as ONE in Christ Lutheran parish - how God is seeking to use our gifts as individuals and a community. We believe that the Holy Spirit speaks to us through scripture and prayer, so we will gather to listen to God's word, talk with one another and pray with one another (the model is similar to our Wednesday night Lent worship times).

All ages are welcome. We will start at 10am and end by noon, possibly earlier. Come when you can, leave when you must. Bring yourself, your Bible, a notebook and a pen.

We will rotate our meetings through the ONE in Christ congregations: June 8 & September 14 - Nazareth July 13 & October 12 - Emmanuel August 10 - Our Savior's

Vita has graciously agreed to chair the event. Congregational members are needed to assist her for the event. If interested please contact Vita at 715-267-6853. 7. Update on constitution was tabled until our June meeting. 8. Update on Roof Project: Bernie is still waiting for estimates of either shingle or steel roofing. When these are received we can go forward with applying for grants to help in defraying the cost of the project. 9. Hymnals: Discussed what to do with our old green hymnals. Sue made a motion to donate them to a mission church. Second by Sheila. Also discussed the need for more copies of our cranberry hymnals. We do run short of hymnals when our attendance is higher than normal (i.e. Easter and Christ-mas) Sheila made the motion to order 10 more hymnals. Second by Sue. Anyone wishing to donate a hymnal can contact the church office or Bernie for details. 10. Members Modeling for Youth: Discussion on the youth attending church. Attendance is growing and the council felt there is a need for congregational members to help with supervision of youth during church services. Sheila and Vita have been assisting with this but do need some added help. Any members wanting to help may speak with Pastor Bier, Vita, or Sheila. 11. Pastor Bier submitted her written report to council as she is on vacation. Her report was read and accepted. 12. Financial report: Kaj reviewed report for us and council accepted the report as presented. 13. Next council meeting wil be June 2nd 2019 after church service. Meeting was adjourned with the Lord’s Prayer.

Congregational Giving & Attendance The Statement of Giving appears to keep members informed on the financial health of their congregation. The average budget expense is calculated by dividing the ex-penses from budget as approved at a church’s Annual Meeting, divided by the num-ber of Sundays in the year. The difference is the amount, plus or minus, between that week’s offering and the average weekly budget expenses.

June Office Hours We are still in the process of securing a new parish office manager. Watch for information about that position on our social media and in the Sunday bulletins. We will not set regular parish office hours until a new parish office manager has been hired.

You may call either Our Savior’s or Nazareth and leave a message – we are able to check messages remotely. Or, you may call Pastor Elizabeth at 715-255-0013.

Tuesdays are Pr. Elizabeth’s Sabbath Day (for rest and renewal), so she will only respond to pastoral emergencies on Tuesdays. Pastor Elizabeth WILL attend any parish meetings scheduled on Tuesday
