The MESSENGER
Volume 6, Issue 9 September 2018
100 Years! Manchaca Baptist Church has been in this communi-
ty for 100 years, and we are celebrating all throughout the month of
September! MBC has been in this community serving and investing in
people in the power of the Spirit to transform lives and make this a
better place to live. Because of this, we are using the theme “In the
Community, For the Community” for our 100 year anniversary celebra-
tion.
We will be looking at how MBC has been loving those in this community, praying for
those in this community, inviting those in this community, giving to and for those in this
community, and going into the community to serve those in this community. Each of
these topics will be part of a 5 week sermon series throughout the month of Septem-
ber. My hope and prayer is that the Lord will be honored as we celebrate what He
has done in these areas throughout the past 100 years and that He will use this to moti-
vate us to continue to love, pray, invite, give, and go into the community as part of
this church today.
Since MBC is in this community for this community, we didn’t want our 100 year cel-
ebration to just be for those of us in the church, we wanted it to be a benefit to the
community. So we are excited to host a community wide family event on September
29 from 11:00am-2:00pm where we celebrate by serving families in our community.
The Christian radio station, Spirit 105.9 will be here broadcasting live and giving away
prizes. We will have free food, a petting zoo, bounce houses, face painting, and vari-
ous other yard games and activities. We hope that you will make plans to be here
and invite several families in your neighborhood to join us that day!
On September 30 we will have a special worship service at 10:45am (no early ser-
vice that day) to celebrate our 100 year anniversary as well. There will be a potluck
lunch following the service in the gym. We are also hoping to have some of our past
ministers and staff here on that day to celebrate with us.
Finally, we think about how MBC has been serving this community for 100 years, we
want to encourage you to think about how you can serve someone in this community
in a specific way throughout the month of September. Pray, and ask the Lord how He
might want to use you as an individual or as a family to love, pray for, invite, give to, or
go serve someone in this south Austin, Manchaca, Buda, or Kyle community.

Anniversaries are a cause for celebration and often gift giv-
ing! There are even lists that exist to help us know what gift is
best to give on certain anniversary dates. For example, it is sug-
gested on a 10th wedding anniversary to give diamond jewelry, on the 15th anniversary to give a watch, on
the 25th anniversary to give silver, the 50th to give gold, and on and on.
But what kind of gift should you get for a church turning 100 years old??? How about the gift of being debt
-free! We are 2 ½ years into a 3 year campaign called The Freedom Initiative in which the goal has been to
pay off the $1.5 million we were in debt for in March of 2016. In 2 ½ years, we have paid off over $1.2 million of
that debt, but we still have a little under $300K to go.
What if we were able to pay off our debt as we are celebrating our 100 year anniversary as a church! I
can’t think of a better gift for the church to receive than to go into its’ next century being freed from the
bondage of debt and having more resources to minster to and serve those in this community!
So as you join in the celebration of MBC’s 100 Year Anniversary this month, would you consider giving the
gift of financial freedom to the church by donating to The Freedom Initiative? You can give during the offer-
ing time at one of our services (mark Freedom Initiative on your check), online (at manchacabaptist.org), or in
person at the church office throughout the week. You can also donate stocks, bonds, property, etc. by con-
tacting the office as well. Thanks in advance for partnering with us to set the church up for future success in
this community!
School is back! Can you believe it?! For most of our students this may have been a sad
day, maybe for some it was a great one, but we are so excited for our regular program-
ming to be back in swing. Summer was great! Memories were made, friendships were de-
veloped, some fun was had, and many laughs happened along the way. All of this feed-
ing into the school year.
As we get back into full swing we just simply ask that the church would join us in praying
for our students and their parents. This time of year can be tough for all and as a church one way we can al-
ways support one another is through prayer. Prayer is powerful and can be life changing for those being
prayed for as well as the person praying.
Pray that parents would experience Jesus’ peace and joy when things get chaotic. Pray that the Spirit
would fill them up with the right words to say to encourage their children. Pray that Jesus would use our par-
ents to point their children closer to His love.
Pray that Students would also experience Jesus’ peace and joy. That no matter how their peers view them
in school, pray that they would realize their true identity in Jesus and cling to it. Pray that Jesus would overflow
them with His love and use that to bring others around them to see the truth of Jesus. Pray that Jesus would
use our Students mightily in their schools and create more disciples.
Ashlee and I are so excited to be on this journey with our families and are always available if anyone needs
anything. We truly believe God is going to do big and amazing things this year in and through all of our stu-
dents that will have Kingdom Impact.

Welcome the Davis Family We are so excited to announce that we have hired a
full-time Worship Pastor! His name is Keith Davis and he is
coming to us from Woodlawn Baptist Church. Keith started a
music career as a professional guitarist for various bands
(including the Eli Young Band, who was nominated for a
Grammy, had a #1 billboard hit, and several gold records!),
but eventually he felt the Lord was calling him into ministry.
Since that time, Keith has served as a part-time and full-time
Worship Pastor in various churches throughout the Austin ar-
ea. Keith is married to his wife, Kennetha, and they have 4
children: Miles (16 years old), Harrison (14 years old), Annma-
rie (10 yrs old), and Alexandria (9 years old).
Keith will be in charge of leading both the traditional ser-
vice and the contemporary service as well as overseeing the
entire Worship & Arts Department. He will be looking into building up a choir again for the traditional service
as well as various times in the contemporary service, having special music services, adding additional band
and praise team members, along with several other things. Keith’s first Sunday will be on September 9, and
we will have a short meet/greet time for him and his family after the first service (in the Worship Center) and a
reception in E115 immediately after the second service. Be sure to come by and welcome Keith and his fami-
ly into the MBC family!
Children’s Ministry School has started and we are back in the swing of things with MBC Kids! AWANA
starts, Wednesday, September 5th and we are excited to welcome many new faces to
our program. If you would like an opportunity to serve in kids ministry, Wednesday nights
are a fun way to get that started! AWANA is for ages 2 years-5th grade and runs from 6:30
-7:45pm during the school year. Come join us!
We have tons of fun planned for the fall and this month’s Colorific theme is going to
help us teach preschoolers that God keeps His promises. We’ve all experienced a broken promise or two and
our preschoolers won’t have to wait long to experience one too. We want them to grow up knowing that
God always keeps His promises. No matter how long we have to wait, God will come through. Our Kindergar-
ten-5th graders will learn that when God saw our sin, He took initiative. He sent Jesus to make things right.
When we see a need and choose to do something about it, people can see the reality of God’s love for
them. All month long, we’ll be taking a closer look at one of the best examples of someone who showed initi-
ative even when he didn’t have to.
We are so excited to kick things off for the fall and hope that you will partner with us as we help children
develop a foundation of who God is.
In His Joy,
