Dear Saints,

It is September and do you know when you should go to worship at Holy Trinity? The short answer is every Sunday! But because we have been involved in a grand experiment during the summer, the hours of worship starting in September are changing. Starting Sunday, September 3rd, and continuing at least through December, the Contemporary worship service will be at 8:30 A.M., and the Traditional worship service will be at 10:30 A.M. This will allow for all Christian Education and Fellowship opportunities to happen between the two worship services. Many thanks to all our Holy Trinity family for helping us try the new summer hours and learning what would be helpful to our worshipping community. See you all at 8:30 A.M. or 10:30 A.M. starting in

September.

Have you ever wanted to do something that would bring us as a family faith closer together? What would it be like to feel like we were all on the same team, or were part of something bigger than ourselves? Not a larger sized church, but meaning bigger as in a stronger relationship with God, a deeper understanding of ourselves, and finding our place in the Kingdom of God. We are getting ready to begin a church-wide Bible

study on Sunday, October 1st.

For the following six weeks October through November, we will focus on commitment, and on really applying the concepts of the Bible to our lives. The Bible, after all is something like a sports playbook, or a roadmap on a long journey. Its timeless truths offer perspective, guidance, and the foundation on which our whole faith system rests. We want everyone to study together.

In every congregation, there are people at different stages. This study is designed to have ‘treasure’ (like the Pearl of Great Price) for everyone at every stage. It is the vision of Holy Trinity’s Session and your Pastor that every member and friend in Holy Trinity’s family will participate in this church-wide study. We would love to have every chair filled.

All will be invited to read the daily passages in the book: Treasures of the Transformed Life, noting insights in the Participant’s Workbook, and then attend a class either on Sunday morning or sometime throughout the week. Even the Sunday sermons will be about committing ourselves to a closer relationship with God through the treasures of prayer, presence, gifts, and service.

Will we at Holy Trinity commit to giving Jesus 40 days of daily readings and attending a study on Sunday between services or a small group sometime during the week? Six weeks of encouragement from Treasures of the Transformed Life to dive into all God has for us and to live lives that are truly satisfying. Let us dive in together as a family of faith for this great adventure of learning and growing!

Blessings, Pastor Val (and Holy Trinity Session)

God Are You There? I’m way down HERE! You’re way up THERE! Are You sure You can hear My faint, faltering prayer? For I’m so unsure Of just how to pray - - - To tell You the truth, God, I don’t know what to say… I just know I am lonely And vaguely disturbed, Bewildered and restless, Confused and perturbed… And they tell me that prayer Helps to quiet the mind And to unburden the heart For in stillness we find A newborn assurance That SOMEONE DOES CARE And SOMEONE DOES ANSWER Each small sincere prayer!

All I can say (besides a big thank you) is WOW! On Monday, August 14, 22 women and

men filled 130 backpacks for the children of the migrant workers at Mision Peniel in Im-

mokalee, students at J. Colin English school in North Fort Myers and students at the Acad-

emy of the Arts in North Fort Myers. We are in awe of the generous members of the HT

congregation who donated supplies, money and labor for this project. We couldn't do it

without you. Also, a big thank you goes to Bev Smith, who chaired this project.

Pastor Val mentioned this on Sunday morning, August 13th, but I felt it is worth repeating.

When I was finalizing plans for Pastor Miguel to come and pick up the backpacks, I was

told that they had already started handing them out and had run out. However, the recipients were told to come

back on Wednesday, the 16th, as Mision Peniel was getting more (ours). The need is there.

Mission Committee Our committee did not meet in July, but did manage to coordinate with three of the organizations that Holy Trinity supports. On August 4 we visited Beacon of Hope on Pine Island and continue to be impressed by the services they provide. We heard about their GED program, a new service for veterans, and met a number of their leaders. The Academy of the Arts welcomed our group with a tour on August 11. Later that same day, the committee also visited Lifeline in Cape Coral, The committee was pleased with the work of these groups. All three of these organizations receive monetary contributions from our Holy Trinity congregation. Thanks to your support, we are able to reach out to those in need. Larry Raber, Chairman of the Mission Committee

Here comes September, choir starts its first rehearsal for the Christmas cantata on Thursday September 14 at 5:30, and choir anthem practice at 6:30. We’re always looking forward to anyone who loves to sing, reading music not a requirement, to join us in the choir. It’s lots of fun and very rewarding. We’re looking for a great year of praising the Lord with joyous music, wonderful preaching and a congregation on fire for Jesus! May God Bless!

A Good Time at the

Church Potluck

On July 26 at 4:30, twenty-six of our flock from Holy Trinity met to

break bread together. We had a good time and got to know our church family a bit better. We discovered that our twenty-six hail from THIRTEEN different states! This small group came from New York, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Texas, West Virginia, Connecticut, Maryland, North Dakota, Flori-da, Alabama, Iowa, Indiana and Michigan. HOW ABOUT THAT! Because of popularity, and an effort to satisfy the apparent need for a potluck by many, another event was held on August 23, at 4:30 in Fellowship Hall and it was an “ALL COME!” We will resume the “invitation only” potlucks in November. Luanne Putnam, Congregation Care

Worship Committee Rally Day will be Sunday, September 17th. Another exciting church year is an-ticipated. Along with our normal Bible studies, we will be offering a church-wide Bible study “Treasures of the Transformed Life, Satisfying Your Soul’s Thirst for More.” We hope everyone will participate. Just a reminder, our worship services starting September 3rd, will be 8:30 Con-temporary, and 10:30 Traditional. We want to thank you for your continued cooperation for our service time changes. Ruth and Terry Rickard

The Finance Committee met on

August 3rd and gave the official okay to present

the e-offering program to the congregation on

November 3rd with a proposed start date of

January 1, 2018. This was done to avoid any

interference with the upcoming stewardship

campaign. July saw a normal dip in income and we are

slightly below budget, but feel sure all will improve with

the end of summer. Once again we ask that any church

member who would like to work one day a month on the

Finance Committee to please contact Ed Hall. May the

Lord bless and keep you. Ed Hall

EVANGELISM

SAVE THE DATE HEAR YE! HEAR YE! It is time once again for a movie. On September 10th, 2017, at

3:00pm, the Evangelism Committee will present the movie "Faith Like Potatoes.” This movie takes us into the inspiring true story of a farmer who found faith. It is a moving real life journey through struggle, loss, courage, hope and transformation - not only for one man, but for all those around him.

Afterwards you are invited to partake of "baked potatoes" with all the trimmings in Fellowship Hall. Dan Putnam (who is a master of the grill) will again act as Chef where he will prepare a feast of baked potatoes. You can then add whatever toppings you wish. This will be

accom panied by a salad and dessert. Mark your calendar for September 10th and bring your family and friends for an afternoon of inspiration and fellowship. Tickets will be provided, but the cost is FREE. We need to know how many to serve. The tickets will be given out on the last Sunday in August and on September 3rd and 10th after each service. Remember this is an outreach project where we can all reach out to those around us to witness a motivating movie and a scrumptious light supper.

116 First time Visitor Packets have been given out so far this year. Some have come in to visit our church because of our new digital sign which announces the times of our services along with the Sermon titles and other events of interest to the public,

Our first "Day Outing" was held on August 24th. Approximately 31 people enjoyed the boat ride to Cabbage Key and the delicious lunch in the atmosphere of the restaurant. Your fellow ship duo, Betty Robertson, and Fran Smith, are busy planning your future excursions. Watch for news in the Sunday Bulletins. Remember, always check the back of your Bulletin for up coming events.

We are looking forward to all the activities that are coming this fall which you will hear about either on Sunday Morning or in the Messenger. Our movie will kick off the events after Labor Day, followed by Rally Day and so on into the Fall of 2017. We will again offer Membership Matter Classes in October/November and, as always, be looking for new ways to bring those around us into the Kingdom of God.

CHURCHES VISITED: I received a card stating that Bill & Lorraine Milligan attended The Fellowship Historic Wilderness Chapel in Hanover, MD on July 2nd & 9th. They said it is a small independent church. Real and “Bible banger“ preacher, Rev. Harold Smith. Very small congregation. Enjoyed this church. Lois and Bud Berger brought us back a church bulletin from Grace United Methodist Church, Naperville, IL dated July 2, 2017. I found it interesting that the names of all the people in need of prayer were listed on the back page and there were over forty names. Also all the members in the Military were listed. Charles Schnuth attended the Bethany United Methodist Church, Monroe, VA on July 23, 2017 and brought us their church bulletin. He stated that he was married in this church on January 16, 1954. Wilma Jenkins attended St. Luke United Methodist Church, Orlando, FL on August 6, 2017. “This is a very large church (5 Services.) They are working very hard to be a “green” church. They’ve really reduced their bulletin.” Thank you all for sharing. Barbara Nase
