Dear Members and Friends of The Metropolitan Museum of Art,

Please join me this winter to discover the natural wonders and cultural splendors of Panama, Nicaragua, and Costa Rica as we explore tropical rain forests and colonial cities, sail through spectacular archipelagos, and transit the Panama Canal aboard the elegant sailing yacht Sea Cloud II.

The voyage offers a rare opportunity to discover the flora and fauna of the isthmus that bridges the American continents—one of the richest and most diverse ecospheres on earth—while savoring the ambiance of a classic sailing ship and experiencing the engineering marvel of the Panama Canal. A vital site of transit and exchange since the early colonial era, it is the setting for the oldest European settlements on the American mainland. Join me in touring archeological and historical sites in cities founded by conquistadors at the beginning of the sixteenth century on the coast of the newly discovered Pacific Ocean, at the very edge of the known world.

Traveling with us from Harvard University will be professor emeritus Harvey V. Fineberg MD, PhD, and adjunct professor Mary Elizabeth Wilson, MD.

We hope to welcome you on this voyage co-sponsored by the Harvard Alumni Association and the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

Sincerely,Ronda KaslCurator of Latin American Art, American WingThe Metropolitan Museum of Art
