How to Remember the Units

King Henry Died [ ] Drinking Chocolate Milk

King = Kilo = 1,000

Henry = Hecto = 100

Died = Deka =10

[ ] = Meter, Liter, Gram

Drinking = Deci = .1 (tenth)

Chocolate = Centi = .01 (hundredth)

Milk = Milli = .001 (thousandth)

How to use the mnemonic

We look at what we are going to measure.Ex. The length of a pencil

We match that with the correct unit of measurement.

Ex. length = meter

We attach the largest appropriate prefix to the main unit.

Ex. Attach the prefix “Centi” to the main unit “Meter” to make Centimeter
