KickStart

Kick Start is designed to keep the kids busy from the moment they arrive in small groups of ideally

six. This helps to keep control, keeps kids busy, involved and creates a sense of identity and

security with their peers and their leader.

Re Fuel

Re Fuel involves an ice-breaker/game, telling the Bible story for the day in a way that brings the

story to life. Worship and prayer are all a part of this interactive time. It is also important to

welcome 1st time visitors, sing happy birthdays and take up the tithes and offerings. It is good to

revise the previous week’s lessons and the memory verse.

X-Celerate

X Celerate is the time that the children go back into their same small groups as in Kick Start and do

an activity with the leader while being asked questions and discuss what they have just learnt.

Grade 0-1 Week 1

Jesus heals the Roman centurion’s

servant

Memory verse: The spirit of the Lord is on me, to preach good news to

the poor, freedom for the prisoners and sight for the

blind (Luke 4:18).

Bottom line: Jesus doesn’t have to be physically present to heal

Bible Story: Healing of the Roman centurions servant (Matthew

8:5-13)

Objective: The faith of the Roman centurion was enough to allow

Jesus to heal his servant. The centurion could have let

many obstacles get in his way. He was not a Jew, he

was wealthy, he spoke another language and he was of

a high rank. He didn’t however, and the kids should be

able to see that we can come to Jesus no matter who

we are.

Items required: print pictures, crayons, pencil,

Activity:

Coloring in a picture of a sick person, and then writing a name of

someone the child know that is sick and needs prayer.

Remind the children that they must remember to pray for that person

as well.

7Day Challenge (Learning to walk with Jesus 7 days a week).

Ask the children what miracle they would like to see happen during the

week. Encourage them to pray for one another in the time of small

groups and ask them for one name of a person that they will pray for

during the week. Remember the miracle of salvation is the best miracle

of all.

Go over memory verse with children. “MEMORY CATCH”

1. Sit the children in a circle.

2. Toss the ball to one child.

3. When he catches it, he must say the first word of the memory

verse.

4. That child then tosses the ball to another child who says the

second word, and so on until the entire verse has been recited.

5. Repeat if time permits (record the time to see what the quickest

time they can do it – challenge the Grade 6&7 Girls who can do it

quickest without error).

Pray with the children.

Grade 0-1 Week 2

The miraculous catch of fish

Memory verse: The spirit of the Lord is on me, to preach good news to

the poor, freedom for the prisoners and sight for the

blind (Luke 4:18).

Bottom line: Don’t give up trying, God cares about the things that

are important to us.

Bible Story: Jesus calls the disciples and provides a miraculous

catch of fish (Luke 5:1-11)

Objective: If you keep trying - a miracle may be just around the

corner. Peter had heard that Jesus had performed

many miracles and was overwhelmed that he cared

enough to perform such a miracle directly related to

Peters needs. Jesus used the miracle to catch Peter’s

attention and then called him to fulfil his destiny in

Him. Peter’s response was immediate when he left

everything and became one of Jesus’ disciples.

Items required: netting cut into squares, fish cut out, crayons, elastic

bands.

Activity:

Make "nets" from netting.

Children can colour in the cut out fish, and write the name of a family

member or friend that needs Jesus on the back, and place them in the

netting and then tie the netting so the fish don’t fall out.

7Day Challenge (Learning to walk with Jesus 7 days a week).

Challenge the children to speak to someone about what they have

learnt today in this story (maybe a parent or sibling or friend). Ask the

children for one need they have. Something that is important to them

but may seem insignificant. Pray for one another in group time.

Go over memory verse with children. “MEMORY CATCH”

Jesus drives out demons

Memory verse: The spirit of the Lord is on me, to preach good news to

the poor, freedom for the prisoners and sight for the

blind (Luke 4:18).

Bottom line: Nothing is impossible for Jesus

Bible Story: Jesus heals a demon possessed boy (Mark 9:14-28).

Objective: Everything is possible for those who believe in Jesus,

he has given us authority, but we need to pray. In

chapter 6 vs. 13 we see that the disciples had driven

out demons before so it wasn’t that they had not done

it before. This story depicts that the struggle for us,

like the disciples is real and that it didn’t always

happen the way it did before. We don’t always see

what goes on in the spiritual realm. By saying at the

end of the story that they needed to pray for “this

kind” highlights our need to spend more time in prayer

and not in our own efforts.

Items required: head band printed on card and cut, staplers, crayons

Activity:

The activity this week will be a head band with the memory verse

written on.

7Day Challenge (Learning to walk with Jesus 7 days a week).

Challenge the children to speak to someone about what they have

learnt today in this story (maybe a parent or sibling or friend). Ask the

children to identify something that they may think is impossible to

happen and start to pray for this miracle. Encourage the children to

pray for this miracle daily.

Feeding the five thousand

Memory verse: The spirit of the Lord is on me, to preach good news to

the poor, freedom for the prisoners and sight for the

blind (Luke 4:18).

Bottom line: Give what you have to Jesus

Bible Story: Jesus feeds the five thousand (John 6:1-15)

Objective: Jesus used what a little boy could give to feed five

thousand people. The little boy was willing to give up

his lunch and Andrew made the effort to find him.

Even though Jesus could have fed the crowds without

the boy’s lunch, he chose to use what the boy gave. Can

you imagine how the miracle must have affected the

boy’s faith? In the other gospels it mentions that he

had compassion on the people, because they were

hungry, again indicating that Jesus is aware of our

daily needs and is more than capable of performing a

miracle so that we don’t go without what we need.

Items required: print out of basket on card board, staplers, crayons,

print out of bottoms line, glue

Activity:

The children will be making a basket out of card board.

Let the children decorate the basket as desired.

Then fold along dotted line, and staple.

Attach handle

On the inside of the basket glue the bottom line, “Give what you have

to Jesus”

7Day Challenge (Learning to walk with Jesus 7 days a week).

Challenge the children to speak to someone about what they have

learnt today in this story (maybe a parent or sibling or friend). Discuss

with the children what talents or resources they could give to Jesus.

KickStart

Kick Start is designed to keep the kids busy from the moment they arrive in small groups of ideally

eight. This helps to keep control, keeps kids busy involved and creates a sense of identity and

security with their peers and their leader.

Activity:

Grade 2-3

The children will be making a basket out of card board.

Let the children decorate the basket as desired.

On the inside of the basket the children can write or draw something

that they have that they can give to Jesus e.g. A Talent.

Then fold along dotted line, and staple.

Let the children place their hands into the bag and pull out one object

each.

Once they have all got an abject place them on the table.

And give the challenge to the children to see what they can make using

all the items on the table.

7Day Challenge (Learning to walk with Jesus 7 days a week).

Challenge the children to speak to someone about what they have

learnt today in this story (maybe a parent or sibling or friend). Discuss

with the children what talents or resources they could give to Jesus.

Ask them to give you an example of what they could do this week that

would be like the boy giving Jesus his lunch. For example: Giving his

pocket money for the week to the church or to someone they knew had

no lunch. It could also be helping someone who is struggling at school

learn for a test if they are doing well in that subject.

KickStart

Kick Start is designed to keep the kids busy from the moment they arrive in small groups of ideally

eight. This helps to keep control, keeps kids busy involved and creates a sense of identity and

security with their peers and their leader.

7:30 Leaders pray (Team Room) 9:30

7:45 KickStart 9:45

Grade 6-7 Week 1

Jesus heals the Roman centurion’s

servant

Memory verse: The spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has

anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has

sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and

recovery of sight for the blind (Luke 4:18).

Bottom line: Jesus doesn’t have to be physically present to heal

Bible Story: Jesus heals the Roman Centurions servant (Matthew

8:5-13).

Objective: The faith of the Roman centurion was enough to allow

Jesus to heal his servant. The centurion could have let

many obstacles get in his way. He was not a Jew, he

was wealthy, he spoke another language and he was of

a high rank. He didn’t however, and the kids should be

able to see that we can come to Jesus no matter who

we are.

Items required: pens, paper and a hat/bag. An A5 exercise book that

stays in the box for the month for a list of prayers

Activity:

1. Break into groups of 3

2. Ask each person to identify a failure that they have experienced

recently

3. Each person draws a piece of paper out of the hat

4. After they have read the failure the group can discuss whether

it was a lack of confidence or possibly lack of faith or thinking

we were not good enough. Each person can read there own if they

feel more comfortable

5. Role play in groups of 2 or 3 how the failure would be more

successful.

6. Each person must identify something they want to pray for and

start a journal for the month

7Day Challenge (Learning to walk with Jesus 7 days a week).

Challenge the children to speak to someone about what they have

learnt today in this story (maybe a parent or sibling or friend). Ask the

children who have seen a miracle happen and what they would define as

a miracle. Get them to write it down. Ask the children what miracle

they would like to see happen during the week. Encourage them to pray

for one another in the time of small groups and ask them for one name

of a person that they will pray for during the week. Remember the

miracle of salvation is the best miracle of all. This week is just the

start of a month of miracles, start building the children’s faith to see

amazing miracles.

The miraculous catch of fish

Memory verse: The spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has

anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has

sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and

recovery of sight for the blind (Luke 4:18).

Bottom line: Don’t give up

Bible Story: Jesus calls the disciples and provides a miraculous

catch of fish (Luke 5:1-11)

Objective: If you keep trying - a miracle may be just around the

corner. Peter had heard that Jesus had performed

many miracles and was overwhelmed that he cared

enough to perform such a miracle directly related to

Peters needs. Jesus used the miracle to catch Peter’s

attention and then called him to fulfil his destiny in

Him. Peter’s response was immediate when he left

everything and became one of Jesus’ disciples. We

often feel unworthy of Jesus love and response to us

but he wants to bless us.

Items required: a list of emotions and statements cut out onto strips

of paper. A few copies of each. Lack of self confidence, fear of rejection, lack of interpersonal skills, I am dull and boring, I look ugly, I don’t know how to act around people, I am scared people will laugh at me, I am afraid I will be teased

Activity:

1. Divide the children into groups of 3

2. Let them come up with a scenario at school that they are battling

with and get them to choose which statements are the most

appropriative to how they feel in that circumstance. Get them to

role play a more positive way that the scenario/scene/situation

could unfold.

3. Discuss how Jesus cares about these small things in our lives and

wants to perform miracles for us.

4. Write in the journal what each child has faith to pray for during

the week.

Get

them to write down the name of one friend or family member that they

are going to do the same with this week. I.e. ask them what they need

and then pray for this friend. Remember to discuss the differences

between needs and wants.

Jesus drives out demons

Memory verse: The spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has

anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has

sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and

recovery of sight for the blind (Luke 4:18).

Bottom line: Nothing is impossible for Jesus

Bible Story: Jesus heals a demon possessed boy (Mark 9:14-28).

Objective: Everything is possible for those who believe in Jesus,

he has given us authority, but we need to pray. In

chapter 6 vs 13 we see that the disciples had driven

out demons before so it wasn’t that they had not done

Items required: 1 dowel rod or pole with sweets attached to them

dangling from several pieces of string. The sweets

must be such that they can be eaten directly off the

string, i.e. no wrappers. Have about 6 sweets hanging

from separate pieces of string. 1 blindfold and a

packet of sweets to replace the ones on the string.

Activity:

1. Each child gets a turn to lie on his back blindfolded while the

leader holds the dowel rod over his head

2. Each child gets to see how many sweets he can eat in 30 secs.

Get them to write it down in a little book

that stays at Uptown or in a personal journal so they can remember.

Encourage them to share their prayers with a friend or family member

so they can pray together.

Grade 6-7 Week 4

Feeding the five thousand

Memory verse: The spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has

anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has

sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and

recovery of sight for the blind (Luke 4:18).

Items required: Pens and paper. A dartboard with darts

Activity:

1. Get the children to each write down one miracle that they have

faith for. It must be personal and specific to their personal lives.

Try and come up with about 20. Number each piece of paper

2. Give each person a turn to throw the dart and they must then be

encouraged to pray for the miracle with the corresponding

number.

3. It may be more practical to pray all together at the end of the

dart throwing.
