p.t.a. sports awards The momentous morning of 20th July 2017 was

filled with pride and honour for parents,

grandparents and the fraternity of Modern

School.The event was organised by the PTA to

highlight the sports achievements of the students in

the presence of our eminent chief guest Mr. Vijay

Goel Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports. From

classes S1(6th) to S7(12th) 48 children were

awarded in the A+ category and 234 children were

awarded in the A category .

A+ category is awarded to International Position

Holders , International Participants, SGFI,

CBSE and Open National Position Holders.

Mr. Vijay Goel delivered an inspiring speech,

motivating students to work hard for their future

endeavours and praised the children for their

exemplary discipline in the school . Finally,

Principal Dr Vijay Datta explained the importance

of sports for achieving success in life.

On 21st July 2017 Students of Modern School

participated in an Interschool Play Competition held at

Carmel Convent School. The theme of the event was " An

Ode to Jane Austen". The team comprised of Alisha

Kansal and Arshiya Chaudhary of S3, who performed a

scene from the famous classic "Pride and Prejudice" by

Jane Austen. Modern School bagged the First Position

as well as the Best Costume award for the play.The

judges addressed their performance as a “Wholesome

Package" right from the starting till the end.

On 25th

July 2017 Students of Saptak society the vocal

music society of our school participated in Epiphany week

held at the St. Thomas' Girls Sr. Sec. School. The

prestigious competition was attended by more than twenty

schools from across Delhi and NCR. Modern School was

awarded a Special Mention Prize for melodious singing.

On 21st July 2017 Devank Agarwal ,Hiya Gupta and

Sidhant Kapoor of S6 participated in the YWCA Debate.

The topic of the debate was ' Death Penalty' where our

students displayed a commendable grasp over the subject

matter of this polarizing topic. Sidhant Kapoor was named

the 'Best Interjector' and received a cash price of two

thousand rupees.

Music COMPETITION – SUR LEHRI

SAROJINI NAIDU POETRY RECITATION COMPETITION

On 24th July 2017 two students of our school Naman Kumar of class S5 and Ambika

Pandey of class S7 participated in Sarojini Naidu Poetry Recitation Competition held at

St. Thomas' Girls Sr. Sec. School. Naman Kumar and Ambika Pandey bagged the

Second and Third Position respectively. Modern School was awarded the Best Team

Trophy.

Module two of the Astronomy club had a Spectroscopy

session on 19th July 2017. The aim of the session was to

enlighten the students about the ‘Spectrums’, their types and

their formations. Many activities were conducted along with

theory lessons to clarify this concept. The second activity

was an absolute delight .The students were introduced to

new equipment for a hands –on experience of diffraction

grating to see a much more beautiful and vibrant rainbow.

Finally, the students used the technique of spectroscopy to

A VISIT TO NATIONAL UNIVERSITY OF SINGAPORE (N.U.S.)

The students of class S5,S6 and S7 attended a

Science Camp held at the National University

of Singapore from 23rd July 2017 to 28th July

2017. The students learnt about the basic

fundaments of different complexities in the

field of science which were captured through

lectures and demonstrations. The students were

mesmerised by the lectures of the experts on

various topics like ‘Driverless cars’, ‘Genetic engineering’,etc. The exciting part of the camp was the visit to the Google

office- where the students got an insight on how the employees of a company manage

to present all the data they gather, in the simplest form possible.The trip to Sentosa

Island was a memorable one. This camp was a great opportunity for all the participants

to learn about applied sciences.

MODERN AT N.U.S.

Mrs. Manju Kant H.O.D. Sanskrit, retired after

more than two decades of exemplary service to the

school. She was given a warm farewell by the staff

on 28th July 2017. The Principal extended warm

greetings and presented her with a silver salver.

Everyone wished her a healthy and happy future.

BADMINTON Students of our school participated in the Zonal Badminton Championship held at Thayag

Raj Stadium from 10th July to 14th July 2017. Our students bagged the Gold Medal in the

under-19 boys,under-17 boys, under-14 boys, under-19 girls and Bronze Medal in

under-17 girls and under-14 girls.

BASEBALL

Modern School Barakhamba Road won the Youth Championship of Baseball in the Under

19 category held at Pushpanjali Farms Delhi from 14th July to 24TH July 2017.

CHESS In the Zone 26 – Inter School Chess Tournament held at Sanskriti School Chanakyapuri

from 14th July to 18th July 2017 Arush Jain and Daksh Jain won a Gold Medal in the

under-19 and the under-17 category respectively. Satvik Kalra bagged the second position

in the under-14 boys category.

FOOTBALL

Modern School under 14 Boys team bagged the second position in the All India IPSC

Football Tournament held at Miles Bronson Residental School, Guwahati.

UNDER-14 FOOTBALL TEAM

Lavanya Bedi and Ayan Marwaha participated in the

International Leadership, Enrichment and Development

programme at the University of Notre Dame, Indiana,

U.S.A. from 15th to 29th July 2017.The programme

entailed several classes ranging from DNA

fingerprinting to Architecture and Business Ethics.

They also took part in leadership sessions, where all

International Leadership, Enrichment and Development programme (I.L.E.D.)

LAVANYA AND AYAN AT I.L.E.D.

participants came together to debate on the qualities of a good leader. They discussed

ways to become future leaders and encourage leadership in our environment.
