Why is it Called a Monstrous Essay?

• This is a massive project, so you need to plan accordingly.

• The essay ties to our study of Frankenstein. You will be writing on the following prompt:

• In Shelley’s Frankenstein, Victor is determined to bring to life a creature from the dead. However, Victor’s ambition blinds him from the monstrous act he is engaged in. Because of the rapid technological advances in the 21st century, science is making new discoveries that previously generations only dreamed about.

• Your task is to select a modern scientific controversy and write a persuasive essay that examines how this topic is a “monster of our own making” (meaning something humans created that may cause more harm than good). Research your topic, examine the controversy, and convince the reader whether your topic is beneficial or detrimental to our planet.

will be employing the point/counterpoint structure:

In your essay you will represent three points from your side, and one point from the other side.
