If you were at the Annual Meeting you heard the good news of our financial health:
We ended 2016 with a surplus of $12,406
2016 donations exceeded pledges by over $10,000 We have received over 57% of the Capital Campaign pledges in the first 13 months
and almost $19,000 in non-pledged donations The Mission budget for 2017 has been increased from $1,200 to $22,000 ($16,000 of
this is from the Capital Campaign, while $5,000 comes from operating income)
Skyward Academy has signed a five-year lease
This is the result of the hard work of past Treasurer, Gloria Hartman, current Treasurer, Beth Doebereiner, the Sowing Seeds Capital Campaign, and your continued generosity. Thank you! We are grateful to have accomplished this important building block to- ward becoming a vital, healthy congregation.
Living out our calling together in healthy relationships is the next building block we will focus on. For the last six months, the session has been studying, discussing, and developing Holy Manners; guidelines for how they intend to do their work of governing and leading. Open, Transparent, Respect, Listening, and Engaging are key words shared at the Annual Meeting. The session has relied heavily on Paul’s words to the
Ephesians to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.” (Ephesians 4:1-3)
The work of the Guiding Team, through the Care Giver group, has pointed out the im- portance of caring for one another. Additionally, the Christian Education Committee is providing seminars on relationship skills like listening (Listening for Heaven’s Sake, Feb. 11) and compassionate confrontation (Speaking the Truth in Love, later this Spring). Dur- ing Lent, which begins March 1, C.E. is encouraging all of the congregation to partici- pate in a small group, for just 6 weeks, as an opportunity to study, pray, and care for one another.
In the same way that you have been generous with your financial resources, I hope that you will also be generous with your time and compassion as we work on this next build- ing block together; building healthy relationships. Each of these is not an end in it- self, but together they provide the support for a healthy congregation. I hope that you will prayerfully consider how you will participate in this next important building block as we “Grow up healthy in God, robust in love” (Ephesians 4:16, The Message).

MPC EVENTS
2017 Annual Congregation Meeting
Mission Giving for February For the month of February, we will collect toothpaste and
toothbrushes for Lighthouse Youth Services. Please drop off
donations in the container in the Gathering Room. The Lunch Bunch will be joined by Montgom-ery Police Chief, Don Simpson, and one other officer to discuss the law enforcement side of drugs, and in particular, the heroin epidem-ic. Both officers have served on the Regional Drug Abuse Reduction Task Force. Please join us for lunch Wednesday, February 8 at noon and the presentation to follow.
Two Adult CE Series for February “Call to Mission” classes continue through February 12. On this six-week journey, the MPC Mission Committee will guide us through how we understand God’s Mission, God’s Call, Poverty Alleviation, Evangelism, Reconciliation, and understanding we have Companions on this Journey. Led by Susie Lewis, Dave Daniels, Sue Poulos, and Dave Bowen. The next CE series is called “Looking Out – 1001 Congregations” February 19th and Feb-ruary 26th. It will be led by Steve Thiel.
Dear MPC family,
I really appreciate the love and support being sent down to me. I am hoping to heal, then return to training. Training is very tough. It is actually more mentally demanding, than physical. That doesn’t mean that the physical aspect is easy. It is rough waking up at 0400, working out, screaming, and playing the Drill instructors sick mind games and being put to bed at 2100. It is all about your mind set to get you through the day… Believe it or not, there are 2 things Drill instructors do not mess with. One is evening prayer, and the other is church…It is very wise to go to church on Sundays, one reason being; to avoid the Drill Instructors for 2 hours (because they aren’t allowed to go to church) and church always has a good message, and lifts one’s spirit up. Turning to God makes Boot camp easier… Parris Island is only tem-porary, as mean as the Drill Instructors are, they can’t pause
time, they can however make it feel slow.

PRESBYTERY
Presbytery of Cincinnati “Dish and Dialogue” Mondays in February
POC Dish and Dialogue hosted on Mondays in February from 6-8pm at the Presbytery Office.
There will be a light dinner meal with a presentation and dialogue regarding current narratives
and data, anticipated trends, and significant issues before the POC (Presbytery of Cincinnati).
Nancy Kahaian provides leadership for these Mondays, along with other guest presenters.
Additionally, participants need to be willing to participate happily in spiritual formation and
complete assigned homework. Please contact Nancy at [email protected] if you are willing to
make a positive contribution to en-gage on Mondays in February 2017
Guiding Team Update
The Guiding Team is called to identify ways to more fully en-gage with our community. We received some wonderful ideas from members at the annual meeting, 1) invite Maple Dale’s Cub Scout Pack 189 to continue meetings here – our space is bet-ter, 2) sponsor little league team, 3) install outside activities like bocce ball court, horse shoes, basketball court, picnic shelter, 4) host community ac-tivities, like picnic, ice cream social, BBQ in July, bingo night, small scale carnival, 5) hand out water and dog biscuits on Satur-days and chat with our neigh-bors, 6) install community or-ganic garden, 7) step in for closed Sycamore Senior Center with activities and lecture series for seniors, including Twin Lakes, 8) offer learning classes like knitting, bridge, 9) partici-
pate in July 4th Parade, 10) vol-
unteer for Montgomery citizen based advisory groups. Thanks to all who participated in these discussions. The team will be considering if and how to pro-ceed with these ideas.

More than 160 Presbyterians gathered to worship Saturday, January 14 at the Mt. Auburn PC. May God contin-ue to guide the Presbytery of Cincinnati to be a people who enliven the vision of peace and reconciliation!

Lunch, Learn & Leads Don’t miss the Montgomery Ohio Chamber of Commerce’s next Lunch, Learn, and Leads! Mem-bers of the Montgomery Arts Commission will share anecdotes about the Montgomery Photo Contest, the longest running am-ateur photo contest in the Cincin-nati area, as well as interesting stories about the arts in Mont-gomery. The event will be held on Thursday, February 9, begin-ning at 11:30 am in the Club-house at Twin Lakes, 10 Brook-stone Court.
Volunteer Opportunities in the City of Montgomery Volunteering allows you to connect with your community, neighbors, City staff, and area businesses; become involved and make a difference in your community; meet new friends; and have a sense of accomplishment by giving back to your community. The City of Montgomery has various volunteer opportunities.

Board/Commission Openings: The City is looking for individuals to make the commitment to be more involved in the leadership of their community through various City Commissions, including the Arts Commission, Beautification and Tree Commission, and the Parks & Recreation Commission.
