When people are talking, we are actually interacting with language and using it

to express interpersonal meanings. These interpersonal meaning are realized in the

lexicogrammar trough selections from the system of mood. In the interaction, we are

establishing a relationship such as “friends”, “buyer and seller”, “student and teacher”,

etc. It enables the speakers to express roles and attitudes. Sometimes we have

misinterpretation to interpret what the people express. It is because we actually do not

know about the meaning of their expression. Meaning influenced by the social

situation. In Cowboys and Aliens Movie, there were also different ways in expressing

anger, whether it was an angry a man to man, a man to woman, a man to friend, and a

man to his enemies (tenor discourse). In expressing anger, people can express their

anger in many ways. That's why we must learn about interpersonal meaning because it

is very important to be learned to avoid misunderstanding when we communicate with

another people. We also should learn about the mood system because it has

relationship between each other. We can know the mood types by analyzing of mood

system.

The objectives of this research are; (1) to explain the mood system of anger

expression expressed by Jake Lonergan scripted in “Cowboys and Aliens” movie

script written by Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, DamonLindelof. (2) to explain the

tenor of anger expression expressed by Jake Lonergan scripted in “Cowboys and

Aliens” movie script written by Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, Damon Lindelof.

This research is descriptive qualitative research. This research describes the

mood system and the tenor of anger expression expressed by Jake scripted in

“Cowboys and Aliens” movie script by Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci,

DamonLindelof. The data of the research is the script of Cowboys and Aliens movie

written by Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, DamonLindelofn.

Based on analyzing the data, the result of the research shows that there are 134

of Jake’s utterances, 16 of Jake’s expression of anger and it’s divided into 37 major

clauses and 4 minor clauses. Those clause are analyzed by mood system and have

result (Declarative mood in her expression is 64,9%, Imperative mood is 24,3% and

Interrogative mood is 10,8%). Meanwhile the tenor of this research are equal and

unequal status, maximal and minimal social distance.

Therefore, the writer suggests that the English learners can study more about

interpersonal meaning and they can identify and analyze an expression based on mood

system. In addition, the English lecturer should give more knowledge to their student

about interpersonal meaning including mood, modality and tenor.

Ketika orang berbincang, kita berinteraksi secara aktual dengan bahasa dan

menggunakannya untuk mengekspresikan interpersonal meaning. Interpersonal

meaning ini terwujud dalam ketatabahasaan melalui seleksi dari susunan perasaan.

Dalam interkasi, kita mendirikan sebuah hubungan seperti ”teman-teman”, ”pembeli

dan penjual”,”siswa dan guru”, dll yang membolehkan si pembicara untuk

mengekspresikan peranan dan pendiriannya. terkadang kita mengalami salah

pengartian. Ini disebabkan karena kita sebenarnya tidak mengerti arti dari ucapan

seseorang tersebut. Arti dipengaruhi oleh situasi sosial. Dalam film Cowboys and

Aliens ada banyak cara dari tokoh-tokoh untuk mengungkapkan kemarahannya.

Orang dapat mengungkapkan kemarahannya dengan berbagai cara. Itulah mengapa

kita perlu mempelajari interpersonal meaning, dengan tujuan untuk menghindari salah

pengartian dan salah pengertian di dalam berkomunikasi. Kita juga perlu mempelajari

mood system karena ini saling berkaitan antara satu dan yang lain, Kita dapat

mengetahui jenis mood dari ungkapan seseorang dengan menganalisa mood

systemnya.

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menjelaskan mood system dan tenor

dari ungkapan kemarahan oleh Jake Lonerganyang tertulis dalam naskah film

Cowboys and Aliens yang ditulis oleh Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, Damon

Lindelof.

Penelitian ini menggunakan deskriptif kualitatif. Penelitian ini menjelaskan

mood system dan tenor dari ungkapan kemarahan Jake dan data dari penelitian ini

adalah skrip/naskah yang tertulis dalam film Cowboys and aliens yang ditulis oleh

Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, Damon Lindelof.

Berdasarkan analisa data, hasilnya menunjukkan bahwa terdapat 134 ungkapan

Neytiri, 16 ungkapan kemarahan Neytiri yang kemudian saya bagi lagi berdasarkan

klausa major menjadi 37 klausa dan minor 4 klausa. Klausa-klausa tersebut

telahdianalisis mood system dan jenis moodnya dan diperoleh (Declarative mood

sebanyak 64,9%, Imperative mood sebanyak 24,3% dan Interrogative mood sebanyak

10,8%. Sedangkan tenor dalam penelitian ini statusnya sama dan tidak sama, dan

social distance nya maximal dan minimal.

Kemudian saya menyarankan kepada siswa untuk belajar lagi mengenai

interpersonal meaning dan mengharapkan mereka bisa menganalisa kalimat dan

mengidentifikasinya berdasarkan mood system. Kepada dosen Bahasa Inggris untuk

memberikan tambahan pengetahuan mengenai interpersonal meaning meliputi mood,

modality dan tenor.
