EDITORIAL: Blues case must be decided quickly

(Crain 's Detroi t Busin ess) Is Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan guilty of anti-competitive practices? Or, as the market-share leader forhealth insurance in Michigan, is it exercising its clout toobtain the best possible pricing from hospitals to keeprates low for its customers? Aetna Inc., one of the nation'slargest for-profit health insurers, thinks it's the former.Blue Cross maintains it is the latter. As Michigan beginsto create the framework for a federally mandated healthinsurance exchange, regulators should decide what'skosher. Why? Because if Aetna is right, its rates may behigher than they should be in the exchange, which wouldgive Blue Cross an unfair advantage and customersfewer choices.

Repeal of Health Care Law Approved, Again, by House

(The New York Tim es) Waging old battles with new zeal, the House passed a billon Wednesday to repeal President Obama’s health careoverhaul law less than two weeks after the SupremeCourt upheld it as constitutional. The bill was approved bya vote of 244 to 185, with five Democrats supportingrepeal. It has no chance of approval in the Senate andwould face a veto from Mr. Obama if it ever got to him.But the House debate exposed the depth of passion overefforts to remake the health care system and suggestedthat the fight would continue next year, regardless of whowins the November elections for president and Congress. The House has voted more than 30 times to repeal partor all of the 2010 law or to choke off money needed forvarious provisions, including coverage of more than 30million uninsured people.
