Dear Parishioners,

Father Stephen Leva

Father Stephen Leva has been appointed Pastor of Saint Joseph Church. Father Leva was ordained a priest in 1988 and is currently pastor of Saint Alphonsus in Maple Glen. Father Leva will begin his pastoral ministry at Saint Joseph Parish on Monday, June 18. As Father Leva begins his ministry here, my ministry as Parochial Administrator will end. Please remember Father Leva in prayer as he prepares to begin his ministry among you.

New Grade Level for the Reception of Confirmation

Over the past two years, the Archdiocese of Philadelphia conducted a study regarding the grades for the reception of Confirmation. Overwhelmingly, bishops, pastors, principals and directors of religious education noted there is a much better understanding of the Sacrament of Confirmation by older grade school students. Archbishop Charles Chaput and the Council of Priests have determined that the new grades for the reception of the Sacrament of Confirmation will be 7th and/or 8th grades. Therefore, no longer will grades 5 or 6 receive the Sacrament of Confirmation.

It has been decided that Confirmation at Saint Joseph Parish will be administered to students when they are in Grade 7. Therefore, Confirmation will not be administered in Saint Joseph Parish in 2019. Students who are currently in Grade 5 will receive the Sacrament of Confirmation in the spring of 2020.

Mass of Healing Petitioning Christ to heal Parishioners and our Beloved Saint Joseph Parish

On Thursday evening, June 7, we will have a Mass of Healing. You are invited to attend to either pray for personal healing or to pray for the parish to heal from the adverse effects caused by Monsignor McLoone.

The symbol/logo for Doctors and healing is seen on ambulances, Blue Cross cards, and vehicles used by first responders, and elsewhere. The logo is a snake wrapped around a pole. The symbol dates back to the Old Testament when the Jewish people were living and journeying through the desert on their way to the Promised Land. These people became disgruntled. They became irritable. Life was hard and difficult. It affected their dispositions, outlook, temperament, their faith, hope, and love. It was as if they had been bit by a poisonous snake. Moses spoke to God about what was happening. God directed Moses to take a snake (saraph serpent) and wrap it around a pole.

God told Moses to hold the pole up high for the people to see. God told Moses to tell the people who wanted to be healed of all that was afflicting, poisoning, souring, spoiling life within them to look upon it in faith, with a desire for God to heal. All who did so were healed.

In the Gospel, Jesus says, “Just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the desert, so must the Son of Man be lifted up (on the cross)” Jesus invites all in need of inner, spiritual healing to gaze upon the crucifix with faith in the Lord’s power to heal.

You are invited to join us as we prayerfully gaze upon the crucifix and humbly ask Jesus to heal. Wounds, hurt, pain, sorrow, untreated injuries, anger left untreated can inject, poison, and give life to bitterness, cynicism which is cancerous to a human soul that was created to be filled with faith, hope, love, joy, peace, etc.

God Bless You and Happy Memorial Day!

Thank You How blessed is this Ministry to have such wonderful members who put their “special day” on hold to baked the delicious goodies for the reception to celebrate Alessandro Giardini becoming a Transitional Deacon.

The reception was well attended and all who attended were treated to a “Goodie Smorgasbord “ and catered to by five of our members; Linda Bonnaducci, Betty Cozzone, Joan Garbers, Karen Hatcher and JoAnn Williams who baked and also hosted the reception.

All of you have our heartfelt gratitude for all you did to make this special occasion a memorable one for Deacon Alessandro.

In today’s Gospel and reading from the letter of St. Paul we hear of the gift of the Triune God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. In our devotional life we make the sign of the cross and recite the “Glory Be” as an expression of our faith as a Trinitarian people. But what does it mean for Christian stewards to accept in a practical way the experience of God in this three-fold gift? Is it a call to share our own life in community, with compassion and love, and to work for healing, justice, peace and unity? Is it an invitation to invite others into fellowship with us in the unity of the Father, Son and Spirit?

dish, a vegetable, a starch, a salad, and a dessert. • Be part of the team that delivers and serves the meal. We arrive at Safe Harbor at 4 p.m., serve between 4:30 and 5 p.m., then go home. If you are interested in volunteering on a rotating schedule or if you would like to learn more, please contact parishioner Elizabeth Sokol at [email protected]. Our next meal day is Friday,
