The Sacrament we celebrate today in this annual feast of Corpus Christi has been described by the Second Vatican Council as “the source and summit of the Christian life” (Lumen Gentium, no.11). It is the second and final covenant which God made with us his new people, sealed in the blood of Christ. In the Old Testament, an agreement be- came a covenant when it was sealed with the pouring of blood of animal. Thus, in the various covenants involving God and his people in the ancient times, the blood of ani- mals was used and God was always the one who took the initiative as in the case of his covenant with Abraham in Genesis 15. God knew that his people would be the ones to break the covenant, and God was ready to pay the expiation for the unfaithfulness of his people. In Exodus 24, which we read today, God renewed this covenant with the people of Israel. Before the giving of the Law on Mount Sinai, the people of Israel pledged themselves to keep God’s covenant. Moses sprinkled “the blood of the covenant sacrifice” half upon the people and half upon the altar of the Lord signify- ing the mystical union between God and his people (Exod.24:6-8). The tablets on which the law was inscribed became the sign of the covenant. In the New Testament which is the New Covenant, it was not the blood of animal that was shed or poured out as was the case in the old law, but God in the Person of Christ used his own body, poured out his own blood as the sign of this covenant. The gospel tells us that on the night before the Passover, “And as they were eating he (Jesus) took some bread, and when he had said the blessing, he broke it and gave it to them, “Take it” he said, “this is my body” Mk.14:22). Then he took a cup, and when he had returned thanks he gave it to them, and all drank from it, and he said to them, “This is my blood, the blood of the covenant, which is to be poured out for many.” When we gather in the Church to share the Eucharistic meal, we recall and re-enact the sacrifice Jesus offered to his Father by dying on the cross, once and for all. The Church teaches that whenever those words of Christ are pronounced during the celebration of the Eucharist by a validly ordained priest; the bread and wine are truly changed into the body and blood of Christ. In the reception of the sacrament, we receive the whole Christ, the risen Christ, whether under the appearance of bread or wine. By receiving Christ in the Holy Communion, we unite ourselves in love with him in a foretaste of our own resur- rection, we nourish ourselves spiritually, and we strengthen the bonds of love and friendship which the Eucharist sym- bolizes. The Eucharist also calls us to further God’s reign of peace, love, and justice; it also challenges us to accept and welcome others, to forgive others and to seek forgiveness from others when we have hurt them, to live in peace and be peacemakers. These are among the numerous reasons why we go to Mass and receive Holy Communion.

Reflection Last Sunday, we celebrated the mystery of the Most Holy Trinity. Today again in the Church, we celebrate an-other great mystery, the Sacrament of the precious Body and Blood of Our Lord (Corpus Christi) the Eucharist. The Sacrament we celebrate today in this annual feast of Corpus Christi has been described by the Second Vatican Council as “the source and summit of the Christian life” (Lumen Gentium, no.11). It is the second and final covenant which God made with us his new people, sealed in the blood of Christ. In the Old Testament, an agreement be-came a covenant when it was sealed with the pouring of blood of animal. Thus, in the various covenants involving God and his people in the ancient times, the blood of ani-mals was used and God was always the one who took the initiative as in the case of his covenant with Abraham in Genesis 15. Religious Education Office

I have recently met parents who have told me that since their child has now received First Holy Communion that they do not need to come to Religious Education classes any more. What a disservice to your child! Children need to continue with their Religious Education every year. So a challenge for everyone - Are you smarter then a Third Grader? Who is St. Monica the patron Saint of? What is the most important day of the Church year? What are the gifts given by God that help us live good lives called? If your child (or maybe yourself) can not answer these questions, Religious Education classes can help. Registrations are now open and forms are at the entrance of the church. - Answers on the bottom page.

Teen Confirmation

Our Confirmation Program is a two year program that assists in the development of teenagers into mature, responsible, Catholic adults, ready to live their faith in the world. Candidates need to be registered and have attended a Reli-gious Education classes within the last year, pass a Catholic Faith as-sessment or take a Basic Faith Workshop. Registration for the Year 2015-2016 is now open. Please visit our webpage at:

or call the Parish Center for more information.

Children's Liturgy Of The Word

Children's Liturgy of the Word is open to all PreK-K, and stu-dents in grades 1 - 3. All chil-dren are invited to participate, there is no registration for CLW and there are no fees! Safeguard the Children Did you Know You can help children know they are understood As parents, educators and volunteers, we want children to know that we are not only authority figures in their lives, but also people they can trust. To foster authentic trust with children, it is important that they know that you understand them. One of the simplest ways to do this is by repeating back what children are telling you. When you do this, you are affirming to the child that they are heard and understood. For complete VIRTUS® Article and more communication tips email: [email protected].

In Loving Memory 1919-2015 Sister Maria Aurora Gonzalez S.J.S, former Director of our Religious Education Program from 1994-2004

and speed her to paradise. May she find eternal life.
