The Last Frontier is not just the state nickname.

More than 580,000 square miles make up the 49th state

and it remains generally unpopulated and very much

roadless, making it the perfect destination to be explored

by sea. Each day your ship brings you closer to remote

towns where lush, rain-drenched forests give way to

breathtaking views of magnificent glaciers. With both

volcanoes and tundras, and more than 3 million lakes,

this is the embodiment of the great outdoors. This land

is a misty wilderness and even when the sun pierces

through the clouds, it is impossible to know what is

beyond the horizon, which is why it’s up to you to go

out and explore it all.

SITKA Founded by Russian fur traders as New Archangel in 1799, Sitka was

the historic center of Russia’s Alaskan empire. Today, picturesque Sitka is known

for its fishing industry, an annual summer classical music festival and, of course,

its many historic visitor attractions. On a clear day Sitka is the only city in

southeast Alaska that actually fronts the Pacific Ocean.

KETCHIKAN An outstanding collection of totem poles make a visit to

Ketchikan essential for anyone interested in Native art and culture. For generations,

Tlingit villages have maintained a tradition of welcoming visitors in regal style

and at Saxman, your family will receive this same time-honored welcome. Tribal

elders have worked hard to pass on many of the stories and rituals you will

witness during your visit.

JUNEAU Juneau’s star attraction is arguably Mendenhall Glacier. This massive

river of compressed blue ice is the largest, most rugged glacier accessible by road.

But once you are at the foot of this imposing mountain, it will become apparent
