M ember SPOTLIGHT: CHEER & MCDONALD’S - PARTNERING FOR GOOD

Who would have thought a chance meeting at a Chamber networking event would lead to what seems at first an unlikely partnership? Well, that’s exactly what happened when Anthony DelFranco, director of marketing at CHEER, and Mike Meoli, owner of eight McDonald’s in Sussex County, met last year. For over 25 years, CHEER’s Operation Christmas delivered hot meals and wrapped gifts to hundreds of Sussex County seniors each year. Last year, after DelFranco and Meoli met, they realized there might be an opportunity for a for-profit business to assist a non-profit’s effort. The idea of McDonald’s employees donating gifts for seniors was born, and this year it came to fruition. Over 400 of Meoli’s employees have the opportunity to make a difference in a senior’s life by donating gifts in a box placed in their break room. According to DelFranco, the gifts are “life staples, like socks, hoodies, sweaters, gloves and more,” for seniors who may not be able to afford even the most basic essentials. For many McDonald’s employees, this may be the first time they have the opportunity to directly affect the quality of life of our senior population, and Meoli feels it gives them ownership of the campaign, and makes it their own. CHEER will deliver meals to more than 300 seniors this Christmas Day, and are always looking for volunteers to make it a success. Call Anthony DelFranco (302) 856-5187 to see how you can help.
