Venues & Spaces The Music Center provides a state-of-the-art experience—from the design of its buildings, to the programming and amenities it offers to more than two million people each year across its 12-acre campus. DOROTHY CHANDLER PAVILION Opened in 1964, the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, the first and largest of The Music Center’s theatres, has been the site of unparalleled performances by stunning music and dance luminaries and virtuosos. With one of the largest stages in the U.S., the Pavilion was the site for more than 20 Academy Awards presentations from 1969–1999. It is now the home of LA Opera and Glorya Kaufman Presents Dance at The Music Center . AHMANSON THEATRE Opened in 1967, the Ahmanson Theatre is home to a wide-ranging selection of performances. Countless productions by Center Theatre Group have included Hollywood giants such as Elizabeth Taylor, Katharine Hepburn, Sutton Foster and John Leguizamo and Sting, among others. Pre-Broadway runs, the best of Broadway and the West End, and dance presentations all grace its stage. MARK TAPER FORUM Opened in 1967, the Mark Taper Forum is The Music Center’s most intimate theatre. The perfectly circular building features a distinctive decorated drum design with an exterior wrapped in a lacy precast relief. The venue is the ideal stage for dramatic plays and productions by Center Theatre Group. WALT DISNEY CONCERT HALL Completed in 2003, Walt Disney Concert Hall is an architectural masterpiece designed by Frank Gehry. The Concert Hall is home to the LA Phil and the Los Angeles Master Chorale and is one of the most acoustically sophisticated venues in the world, providing both visual and aural intimacy for a singular musical experience. THE MUSIC CENTER PLAZA The Music Center Plaza is a beautiful 35,000 square- foot outdoor urban oasis and destination for arts and community programming such as The Music Center’s highly popular Dance DTLA, along with festivals, concerts and other special events. The “plaza for all” welcomes all and brings to life the strength and diversity of Los Angeles County with a range of dining options, refreshing gardens, an iconic fountain and views of Grand Park and City Hall. GRAND PARK With its majestic views extending from The Music Center to City Hall, Grand Park, “the park for everyone,” is L.A.’s central gathering place. This 12-acre green space offers open spaces for civic gatherings and community events and is home to three major events that bring Angelenos and guests together from across the county to celebrate July 4 th , Día de los Muertos and New Year’s Eve. Designed by architect Welton Becket, the original Music Center was comprised of three theatres.
