the music makers
DESCRIPTION
We have a number of renowned musical instrument makers living in our midst in County Mayo, and this summer film-maker Myles O’Reilly visited four of them to record them in their workshops. We’ve placed the resulting instruments in the hands of four superb Traditional musicians, added edited film of the craftsmen at work and the result we hope will be a thrilling evening of music-making of the highest calibre. Join us to glimpse violin maker Graham Wright, bow maker Gary Leahy, mandolin and guitar maker Brian Lofthouse and uilleann pipes maker John Butler file, plane, bend, stretch and glue with incredible skill while the instruments they created are plucked, bowed, strummed and played with equal skill by musicians Julie Langan, Finbarr Naughton, Brian Lofthouse and John Butler. And yes, two of the makers are also musicians. The performance will be followed by a 15-20 minute question-and-answer session with the instrument makers.
