The Music Room:Episode 1 (The Jazz room)

What is the music room?

• The music room is an all-new music based programme that brings

• its audience live bands as well as an in-depth look into many of the less heralded musical genres.

• One of the key concepts is to look into why a previously popular genre of music (i.e. Jazz, Blues, Folk) has perhaps lost relevance to a substantial market of younger audiences.

• The pilot episode focuses on Jazz.

Why this concept?

• The main reason why I chose this option is because I want to try and dispel any myths that might be prevalent in the genre.

• Some audiences may feel that jazz listeners think of themselves as having more “sophisticated tastes” or being “higher educated” which can be off putting and seen as self-indulgent.

• The problem to me is not how you pitch the idea to a younger audience in my opinion, but more a lack of exposure to music that they are not accustomed to. It should be about a Live experience by avid, passionate musicians of the genre. .

Who is it aimed at?• The target audience I am hoping to get influenced by this program is

between the ages of 20-35.

• It can open the door to a new, exciting genre for audiences, and let see what they’re missing out on!

• Its an alternative for younger audiences who are perhaps disenchanted with what they hear on the radio.

• The live audience chosen will be compromised mainly of younger people.

• Energetic, young, lively, Male and Female

What is the narrative?

• There will be a narrative during the show using a music ‘historian’ as a consultant. He will make sure that all of the research that we use is factually correct.

• During the V/T’s there will be a few sections to give a‘recap’ on Jazz music which focuses in a nutshell on the definition of the musical genre as well as some of its most central figures.

• This will familiarise audiences with Jazz as a concept which can lead to a path of discovery.
