The Musical Journey of Adi Cox

Nobody has ever asked me about my musical journey before, but since now that I have been asked:

I bought my first guitar in 1977 at 12 years old. At 14 I was in a band called The Final Solution. We played Sex Pistol covers and our own punk songs. We played The New Penny, village halls and North Kesteven School one dinner time which turned into a mini riot. The line up was:

Andy Moore - vocals Mike Best - Guitar Ady Cox - Bass Marcus Saunders - drums

When I left Robert Pattinson School in 1981 I worked towards getting a band together we called ourselves Actus Reus. We used to push bike from North Hykeham to Branston to use a sound room to practice in. The line up was:

Keith Mountcastle (Spud) - vocals Ady Cox - guitar Ian Metcalf - bass Shane Holland - drums

We did a gig in Nottingham in 1983 backing up Chaos Uk, Onslaught, Concrete Sox and No Brain Cells.

My musical journey took a break until I was 21 when I decided to go halves

with Andy Moore to run a mobile disco. We called ourselves A1 Roadshow and got a regular spot at The North Hykeham Social Club. After two years I bought Andy's half of the disco and managed to run the disco until 2001. I have done over 800 bookings altogether.

As well as playing guitar I also play piano. My grandma was a music teacher and she gave me a nice steinway piano which I used to improvise on. For some reason next to Punk Rock guitar I have always liked Jazz piano and so I have my own little jazzy tunes that I play.

I moved in with my girl friend Paula in Ollerton near Mansfield in 2000 and my musical journey Took a break. I did an Open University Mathematics degree from 2002 till 2008, but gradually I got back into playing the guitar and my keyboard. I was always rubbish at doing covers and constantly improvised. I began to make videos of my improvisations and put them up on the internet. I called myself EMO Adi partly as a joke because although I felt an affinity to Emo music I was 30 years too old. I have over 700 videos on Youtube alone at this moment in time.

I am currently playing with a group of young people in the Mansfield area. We call ourselve TimeNature. We do not gig but we practice and record our efforts just for a bit of fun. We have a closed group on facebook, Our music is private and not for the ears of the general public. You have been saved : )
