Welcome to Nagano Prefecture! From not only Tokyo but also Nagoya and Osaka, Nagano Prefecture is one of the most popular Japanese tourist destinations where you can enjoy an abundance of snow and nature which is easy to access.Following the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympics, it has become known in the world and has been visited by a number of foreign tourists now. In recent years, with such things as pork-free menus and prayer spaces, the number of restaurants and hotels better catering to Muslims has also been increasing.

Nagano Prefecture is located in the center of Japan. Blessed in rich nature, and with its fascinating traditional culture and country lifestyle, it is one of Japan’s leading tourist destinations. In recent years, as there has been many foreign tourists visiting and enjoying sightseeing, henceforth, I believe that people of this prefecture have better exchanges with travelers. This booklet, made in cooperation with those related to tourism in

Nagano Prefecture, was created with the aim to introduce pleasing tourism resources to Muslim travelers, as well as to provide necessary information for their worry-free stay.My earnest hope is that this booklet helps more Muslim travelers learn the charm of Nagano Prefecture and visit Nagano.

Welcome to Japan, welcome to Nagano. In large cities the streets wel come tourists, however in Nagano Prefecture we (as people) w elcome tourists. Relax in Nagano’s hospitality." Isn’t that such fun? ” and " Doesn’t this bring such pleasure? ”, imagining such comments from customers’ smiling faces is what we think about when making our itineraries.

Come and enjoy the hotels’ hospitality, as if you are visiting your Japanese relatives.

Twenty thousand years ago, glacial ice scrapped off the surface of this bowl-shaped terrain, creating this treasure house of alpine plants. There is fun to be had in all four seasons, however the scenery with golden autumn colors covering the mountain face brings much excitement. Another factor of popularity is that it’ s easily accessed by ropeway.●Information CHUA NAVI http://www.chuo-alps.com/en/index.html

Underground water is warmed by geothermal activity and gushes naturally, making the hot springs, the mountains’ blessing. With so many mountains in Nagano Prefecture, some good quality hot springs exist here and there, the second most in number in Japan. But as hot springs are public baths in most places, many overseas guests hesitate to go.However with foot dedicated hot springs, which are bathing facilities for below the knee, still the whole body can be warmed by using one. In Nagano, there are many foot hot springs which are free of charge to use. So, please feel free to try.

●Lakeside Park (Kamisuwa Hot Springs) This location is popular as it overlooks Lake Suwa.

●Hakuba Station Hot Spring (Hakuba) Lively as it is such a popular tourist destination.

●Oyu no Akuto (Nozawa Hot Springs) Has private booths for 2 to 3 people.

For those who hesitate using publicbaths, here is a recommendation.

There are many hot springs in Nagano, and at many of them you can enjoy a foot hot spring. Let us introduce an especially accessible foot hot spring to you.

This nature park was created as a result of Mt. Hakuba-Norikuradake volcanic activity. Travel by gondola and ropeway, referred to as “moving observatories”, to reach a vast natural field of an altitude of 1,900 to 2,000 meters. A promenade of about 5.5 km has also been developed, where you can easily enjoy hiking, drawing many visitors.

What is fruit picking? What is fruit picking?Eating freshly picked produce on location from orchards laden with fruit is a true pleasure. This is a unique charm of areas in Nagano Prefecture where fruit is grown. In most fruit-picking locations, you can pick and eat as much fruit as you want within a specified time, and taking some back home as souvenirs is also possible. Picking apples for example, is usually around 1,000 yen (for about 30 minutes), which is reasonable.

Nature’ s gift to Nagano Prefecture is its thriving fruit farming industry. Nationwide, Nagano ships the most or second most quantities of fruit including apples, which is the representative of Japanese fruit, many types of grapes, prunes, and blueberries. There are many spots where you can enjoy fruit-picking experiences. Eating plenty of fresh fruit full of vitamins is popular particularly with young women. It is especially recommended for large groups as a cheerful activity.

Soba (buckwheat) of Nagano iscalled “Shinshu Soba” and is

very popular among Japanese.

Nagano Prefecture is well known in Japan as a specialty area for its noodles made from buckwheat flour. In summer, chilled zaru soba is the most commonly ordered dish, however in winter as hot pots are popular, so toji soba, buckwheat noodles served in a hot pot is popular. Also, just as well known among Nagano’ s many specialties is a spicy condiment called shichimi togarashi(blend of seven spices; red chili pepper, sesame, Japanese pepper, citrus peel, etc.), which is recommended to add on your soba. A photo is taken at a shop named “Takagi” in Matsumoto (P-12).

Soba (buckwheat noodles) and oyaki dumplings are cuisines usually made without using any meat, but check the menu to be sure. Also, alcohol may be part of the contents in the dipping sauce or flavoring. If you are concerned, please contact the store directly.
