The Mustard Seed

Text: Matthew 13 : 31-32

Introduction• In the Bible, the mustard seed is used by Jesus in the

parable of the Mustard Seed as a model for the

kingdom of God which initially starts small but grows

to be the biggest of all garden plants. Faith is also

spoken about in the context of a mustard seed

Characteristics of the Mustard Seed

• The Mustard seed is small – Luke 4: 31

• It is not limit by size.- John 1:12 ; Matthew 25: 14-15

• Its between 1-3 mm in diameter.

• The mustard seed is patient and humble – 1 Peter

5:6

• This mustard seed is a fighter, it can grow in the mist

of weed without retard or lack. It is focused. – 1

John 2:15 ; Matthew16: 24 ; Hebrews 12:1.

• The Mustard seed grows fast and soon becomes a

pillar of support/assist to many. – Galatians 6: 1-2 not

Galatians 5:26.

• It is used in multiple ways. ( Medical field, food and

beverage industries. We should likewise apply

ourselves.- Philippians 4:8 ; James 4:17.

Conclusion• Faith is so vital to the Christian life that the Scripture tells us

without it, it is impossible to please God - Hebrews 11:6.

• The mustard seed in the parable grows to be a huge tree, representing the tiny beginnings of Christianity when just a few disciples began to preach and teach the gospel; Eventually the kingdom grew to huge proportions, encompassing the entire world and spreading over centuries.

• So, too, does the tiniest bit of faith, when it is true faith from God and properly applied , will grow to immense proportions in the lives of Christians and spreads out to influence all they come into contact with – Matthew 5: 13-15 ; 17:20-21

• It only comes when we listen and do what we have heard. Romans 10: 17.

• Let us show the same faith as Christ Jesus – Philippians 2: 5-8, 12.
