IU(BARD E. WOOD - Dep't. of F o r e i a Iangmges - L.S.U. - Baton Rouge, Ia. 70803 I recently hosted well-known Finnish DXer Jyrki K. Talvitis in

my home for a week. We had some good IM1 severs1 Buopeans including Tiram-1214 Bice-1554 and tentative BR-l602. October i s generally the best LX month in Fin- land and was a l so the month during which, i n Hsw~ii, I heard s ix Europeans. Jyrki rather wished he were back i n Flnland trying for North Americans a t the time. In- teresting plans a r e undemay for W i n Flnland th i s Winter: the Finns a r e just dis- covering the Beverage antenm and plan DXpeditions i n mid-Winter t o the i r Fgr North. Fascinating daylight Winter and l a t e equinoctial reception of, not only Alaska and the West Carst, but inland locations l ike Arkansas and the %st , too, Offer potential reception of just about every NA station under the right M. Here. Tizarrr.rl214 seems more powerful now. I reconanend the NRC Night Flittern Book t o Finns and other mopean IXers, and wished I had had it when IXing from Wwlii. The MW NEWS recent index t o North American receptim i n England since 1952 shws a r is ing number of U.S. daytimers, chiefly from W., Va., S.C. and similak Atlantic states, heard there. Interesting.
