EACH DAY COMES WITH 86,400 SECONDS, TICK TOCKThis workshop is designed to help participants explore
ways to provide contrast and diversity within daily schedules for infants and toddlers and spend focused, fruitful time with children. Join Sue DeCarlo as she urges providers to treat every task-even diapering and feeding as a chance to connect with children.

JUMP INTO LEARNING We have all heard about the importance of physical activity for young children. So how do we get children
up and moving with a purpose? In this workshop we will look at the benefits of physical activity for young children and ways to promote learning through physical movement using literacy and math mats. Jump into learning with Katie Howell.
Fee: $18Member$23NonMemberInstructor: KatieHowellDate: Monday,11/4/2013Time: 6:30PM-8:30PMLocation: SyracuseCreditHours: 2OCFS: 1;3;7
UP FRONT AND BEHIND THE SCENESHave you ever wondered when and
how mandated reporting began? What does the ASPCA have to do with reporting the abuse of children? How does the Social Security Act play a part in his-tory when it comes to neglect of children? Who are Mary Ellen, Lisa, and Roxanne and how did they influence changes in the way abuse is viewed in America? Get these questions and more answered when you take a look back at the history of protecting children and mandated reporting.

HOW HELICOPTER PARENTS CAN HARM & HOW YOU CAN HELPPlease join Pat Beck and Katie Howell as we look at
the phenomenon of "Helicopter Parenting". In this training we will look at how you as the provider can effectively work with and support both family and child. We will look at how helicopter par-enting can lead to a child's depression and anxiety, a lack of self-confidence and how it undermines the child's decision making as they develop. Lunch will be provided.

TO APP OR NOT TO APP? THAT IS A TOUGH QUESTIONThere are apps for everything and knowing how and
when to use them in child care can be a challenge. Is screen time good for children? If so, how much time? The children of today are growing up in a fast-paced technology based world that is hard to keep up with. Come check out some kid friendly apps, learn how to evaluate them for age-appropriateness, and know when to use them in your program.

FOCUS ON THE GOOD AND YOU WILL FIND GREATBack by popular demand! Unfor-
tunately, it is often easier to focus on what someone does wrong rather than on what they do well. If we put most of our energy on finding faults and expect children to misbehave, they won’t disappoint us. Come learn how to quickly identify the positive abilities and resources that children and families have and use them to create a more positive environ-ment for you and the children.Fee: $18Member$23NonMemberInstructor: PatBeckDate: Monday,11/11/2013Time: 6:30PM-8:30PMLocation: SyracuseCreditHours: 2OCFS: 1;3ORFee: $15Member$20NonMemberInstructor: PatBeckDate: Wednesday,12/18/2013Time: 6:30PM-8:00PMLocation: WEBINARCreditHours: 1.5OCFS: 1;3
THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE UGLY: HOW PROGRAM PLANNING AFFECTS
CHILDREN'S BEHAVIORIt is no surprise that children’s behavior can be challenging at times and sometimes get down-right ugly! But how might your daily planning play a role in their behavior? How much is too much? How much is too little? What kinds of experiences and activities contribute to a successful day? Let’s take a look at how you can put together a program plan that will help reduce children’s problem behav-iors. Learn what to consider when planning for your program to bring out the best in all your children.Fee: $18Member$23NonMemberInstructor: PatBeckDate: Monday,12/16/2013Time: 6:30PM-8:30PMLocation: SyracuseCreditHours: 2OCFS: 1;3;7ORFee: $15Member$20NonMemberInstructor: PatBeckDate: Tuesday,11/26/2013Time: 6:30PM-8:00PMLocation: WEBINARCreditHours: 1.5OCFS: 1;3;7

OUT IN THE COLDWinter hasn't even set in yet, but are you finding you are already getting the
"blues"? Are you wondering what to do with the children in your program all winter long? Getting children outdoors in the winter not only cures the "blues", but the activities that you can have readily available will make those cold months slip on by.

COLOR ME WILDArt doesn't just consist of paint and paper anymore. Learn how art can be used
in all aspects of your program using materials that create one of a kind artwork that will make any child the next Picasso. Take the "craft" out of arts-n-crafts and learn developmentally appropriate approaches to art during this hands-on training.

WE CAN WORK IT OUT: COMMUNICATING WITH PARENTSWho doesn't want to tell parents that their children
had a wonderful day? We all do, but sometimes as early child-hood educators we have to deliver "not so wonderful" infor-mation. In this training we will practice the art of delivering difficult news with each other so you are better prepared to do it with parents.

FAMILY AND COMMUNITY RELATIONSHIPS WITH A FOCUS ON BULLYING DURING THE SCHOOL-AGE YEARS Bullying–unwanted, aggressive behavior that involves a real or perceived power imbalance– is a problem that has plagued young children for generations. However, with recent technological advancements it has taken on a whole new look–cyberbullying–a type of aggression carried out through electronic means such as the internet, e-mail or mobile devices. According to NICHD, the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, 20% to 30% of US students in grades 6 through 12 are bullied at school, and approximately 6% of US students in grades 6 through 12 are cyberbullied in school or elsewhere.
Join us for this Videoconference training to learn what bullying is, what cyberbullying is, what you can do to stop bullying in your program, and what you can do help chil-dren in your program who might be victims of bullying.
