It’s that time of year again when we have to talk about making upgrades, passing GED Ready® Tests, earning GED® credentials, and most importantly, what’s next as you think about your future. This edition of The NAVIGATOR is special in that it will be our first Spring/Summer issue, and we are highlighting some of our students who already took those apprehensive first steps to prepare for their unique college and career experiences. Kentucky Essential Skills CertificateThe Kentucky Essential Skills Certificate (KESC) in now available for adult education students. This certificate, once earned, shows potential employers that students who finish the course demonstrate aptitude with professional soft skills in the areas of professionalism, team building, communication, and critical thinking. KESC workshops will be held in many adult education sites, with dates and times to be announced soon!

Accelerating Opportunity Kentucky (AOKY) Updates - Where are they now? 1
Ellen Darkwa earned the Art Dietz Award last May at GED® Graduation and a full scholar-ship to Jefferson Community & Technical College (JCTC). Ellen is now in the Nurs-ing Program and has maintained a 4.0 Grade Point Average (GPA).
Mustafa Muradoy, an ESL student, completed AOKY and upgraded his language skills. Mustafa is pursu-ing his Automo-tive Technician Degree, works at Michael Tires, and is hoping to start his own business later this year.
Bethany Gunter is currently taking the First Year Experience class at JCTC through AOKY. She earned her GED® creden-tial this spring, plans to continue her education at JCTC, and is also a Ready to Work student. She hopes to attend the University of Louisville after she earns her As-sociates Degree.
Clarence Perkins earned his Au-tomotive Front End certificate while enrolled in AOKY. Clarence also earned his GED® creden-tial in February 2016 and plans to return to JCTC and pursue his Automotive Tech-nician Associates Degree.
Ashley Day earned her GED® credential in March and is now a Ready to Work student. She plans to enroll in the JCTC Phar-macy Technician program in the fall. She will finish AOKY this summer and will have earned her Medicaid Nurse Aide (MNA) and Basic Healthcare Foundations Certificates. She currently has a 3.5 GPA.
