China Abby, 22, now will face a single charge of unlawful possession of a controlled sub- stance analog. The amended complaint was iled by Ed- wards County State’s Attorney Michael Valentine. The new complaint alleges Abby was in possession of alpha PVP, an analog of MDPV. A pretrial conference has been set for Oct. 2. Pleads not guilty A Bellmont man has entered a not guilty plea to intimida- tion and aggravated assault charges. Dennis M. Bailey, 24, is al- leged to have placed a knife at the throat of Bryan Higgin- son on Sept. 9 after allegedly threatening him to bring a sy- ringe. Bailey, appearing with his at- torney, Public Defender Jerry Crisel, waived his formal ar- raignment in making the plea. A pretrial conference has been set for Nov. 20. Bond has been set at $3,500 cash. Makes irst appearance An Albion man charged with misdemeanor criminal tres- pass made his irst appearance in court. Zachary B. Reed, 25, is al- leged to have entered the home of Beatrice Bailey at 341 W. Main St. in Albion on Sept. 15. Reed entered a not guilty plea to the charge, waiving his right to a formal arraignment. A pretrial conference has been set for Oct. 2. Reed also entered a not guilty plea to a disorderly conduct charge stemming from an in- cident on June 29. He also pled not guilty to a retail theft charge in which he is alleged to have taken two electronic dis- posable cigarettes from Knapp Mart on May 31. Terms of his release include no contact with Bailey, Sissy Iles or Tabitha York. Facing deceptive practice A Carmi woman is facing a felony deceptive practice charge. Rita G. Fleming, 56, is al- leged to have written a check for $95.21 at Borowiak’s IGA, knowing her bank, Old Nation- al Bank of Mt. Vernon, would not cover the outlay. She made her irst appearance with her attorney, Public Defender, Jer- ry Crisel. A preliminary hearing has been set for Oct. 2. Powers, 49, is alleged to have struck Kathy Kays on Aug. 28. Terms of his release permit Powers to travel to In- diana and Missouri. It is also stipulated he cannot have any contact with Kays. A pretrial conference has been set for March 19. Waives arraignment A Grayville man charged with driving suspended has entered a not guilty plea. Jeffrey C. Middle St., was placed in cus- tody by White County Deputy Sheriff Randy Graves, who responded to a report of tres- passing at the Tom Reeves res- idence at 325 E. North, Gray- ville, around 7:22 a.m. Reeves told the deputy Kissee entered Reeves’ camper trailer the night before, even though Reeves told Kissee a week ear- lier he was not allowed on his property. While speaking with Reeves, Graves saw Kissee emerge from the camper. Kissee, who Graves said smelled of alcohol, denied Reeves told him he was not allowed in the camper. Sarah Martin, who spent the night in the camper, conirmed Reeves’ story for Graves. Kis- see was placed under arrest and taken to the White County Jail at Carmi. Kissee arrested Saturday morning A Sumner man was arrested Friday night at the White County Sheriff’s Department. Adam James Brenton Cess- na, 27, turned himself in on a pair of active warrants. Cessna was wanted on a mis- demeanor warrant from Ed- wards County for possession of drug paraphernalia and on a felony warrant out of Law- rence County for forgery. He was freed on $1,650 cash bond. Sumner man turns himself in An Albion man has been sen- tenced to three years in the Illinois Department of Correc- tions after his probation was revoked. Steven E. Linder, 30, must also serve two years of manda- tory supervised release once out of prison. His probation, for a 2005 aggravated crimi- nal sexual abuse, was revoked after he was charged Aug. 2 with resisting a peace oficer in Grayville. Probation revoked for Albion man A deer caused minor dam- age to an Ellery man’s vehicle, but no injuries, the Edwards County Sheriff’s Department reports. Samuel S. Jones, 74, Route 1, Box 147, Ellery, was west- bound on Route 15 about one- eighth of a mile east of County Road 200E at 10 p.m. on Sat- urday, Sept. 22, when the deer ran into the passenger side of Jones’ 11996 Lincoln Town Car.Damage was minor and Jones was able to drive away from the scene. Deer causes damage, no injuries A Grayville man charged with methamphetamine, can- nabis and drug paraphernalia possession has entered a guilty plea.In exchange for his plea to the meth possession charge, the cannabis and parapherna- lia charges against Gregory A. Williams, 50, now of Marion, were dropped. Williams was charged March 28 after authorities were given permission to search his Gray- ville residence by Williams’ ex- wife.Williams was sentenced to one year of probation, or- dered to pay ines and costs to- taling $3,000, pay a $500 drug assessment and pay $633 to the county’s anti-crime fund. He received two days of credit for jail time served. Williams pleads guilty An accused double mur- derer pleaded innocent to all charges against him during his arraignment Wednesday in White County Circuit Court. Danny K Coston, 36, of the Centerville area, was clad in street clothes and unshackled as he entered the plea before White County Resident Judge Thomas H. Sutton. The charges against Coston stem from the Aug. 26 slayings of Jacob Wheeler, 22, of Cen- terville, and Jessica Evans, 17, of Norris City, in a remote area near the Little Wabash River east of Centerville. Coston faces sentences poten- tially amounting to natural life in prison without parole. He is charged with ive counts of murder, one count of aggravat- ed criminal sexual assault, two counts of aggravated discharge with a irearm and one count of concealing a homicide. Sutton set a Nov. 13 date for Coston’s jury trial, according to The Carmi Times. However, Coston’s lawyer, Jerry Crisel of Albion, told Sutton the dates are likely to change because he plans to ile “numerous” motions before the trial date. Coston pleads not guilty to all charges
