“After a successful NEW American Home project in 2009 in Las Vegas, Blue Heron Construction (BH) knew that once again, the only choice for roofing on the 2013 NAHB was, MAC Roofing Services. BH Principle, and NAHB home designer Tyler Jones wanted to once again be sure that the roofing system was an integral past of the thermal package and could once again stand up to the harsh Las Vegas climate while providing unsurpassed roofing performance.

Upon award of the NAHB project for the second time in 4 years, Jones again contacted Chuck Kruse, the President of MAC Roofing Services (MRS) early on in the process to be sure that the correct manufacturer could be chosen in order make this one of a kind project a success again for 2013. Even though MRS has worked with several manufacturers of foam and coatings, when asked, Kruse immediately said, “The only partner for this project, is Lapolla Industries out of Houston Texas”.

The design of the “knife edge detail”, as it is called at the jobsite, pre-sented an edge detail problem that was overcome with a custom 2 piece design high rise termination. “Designers draw pictures and then ask us to figure out the solutions” said Kruse. “It took about 6 different configurations at the detail before Jones ended up with exactly what he wanted”. A clean detailed edge that cuts back at a sharp down-ward reverse angle but still has a termination for the foam to finish into. “One of the great things about the foam roofing system is it gives latitude at the jobsite because it is customized for every roof. No two roofs are ever the same.” Said Kruse

The roof system consists 9,200 square feet of FOAM-LOK spray foam roofing at 2.5 inches and 3 applications of protective Thermo-Flex coating. Because of the customized “knife edge” detail, a custom color was blended by Lapolla for the roofing portion of the architectural knife edge keeping the detail transitions clean.
