COOKIN’ WITH COACH - Chris “Coach” Akers
If you are like me, you’re probably a little sick of turkey and stuffing by now. There are so many creative things to do with turkey and, after day 5, you just want it to go away!
But fear not! One thing that never grows old is a nice Christmas cookie. And boy, do I have the treat for you. Introducing Christmas Cornflake Wreath cookies!
Ingredients:
1/3 cup of butter
4 cups of miniature marshmallows
1 teaspoon of green food coloring
6 cups of cornflakes
Red cinnamon candies
In a large saucepan, melt butter over low heat. Add marshmallows and stir until melted. Remove from heat and stir in food coloring. Add corn flakes cereal, stirring until well coated. Using 1/4 cup dry measure coated with cooking spray, evenly portion warm cereal mixture. Using buttered fingers, quickly shape into individual wreaths. Dot with cinnamon candies.
Can you believe we're already closing in on Christmas? There's the music, the gift giving, the New Life 12 Days of Christmas, and lots going on - with good reason! Of all the gifts ever given, the greatest gift of all came to us on Christmas, when God gave us Himself in Jesus. I im-agine that night had to be terrifying for a young, travel-ing, not-yet-married couple, who were far from home and couldn't find a room. The Son of God didn't come with loud trumpets and banners. The announcement came to the shepherds - the true "least of these" in the world then - that the son of God had been born in a stable, and they would find Him in a manger.
I think Jesus came that way to let us know that you don't have to be one of the "elite." You don't need a certain place in society, or to have attained some sort of status in the eyes of everyone else in order to know Him. Remember the words of the old Christmas Carol "Good Christian Men, Rejoice!" and be joyful - because whoever you are, wherever you are, "Christ was born for YOU."
