- BUILDING YOUR SOCIAL PROFILES Part 2:
- Make a Lasting First Impression Before you start wildly applying to jobs, its crucial to start building your base. Dont be like Fred!
- Fact: Youre Being Googled Not only in background checks, but by hiring managers, potential coworkers, bosses and more. Do a search on your name and see what comes up you may be surprised!
- Prole 1: LinkedIn People are viewing your prole every day this is an absolute priority for anyone searching for jobs.
- Complete Your Prole 1. Headshot & Descriptive Tagline
- Complete Your Prole 2. Robust Summary & Skills
- Complete Your Prole 3. Complete your work history
- Recommendations Get them from friends, past customers, colleagues, bosses and even vendors. 4. Get Recommendations to add legitimacy to your prole.
- Engage with Others Sharing gets you noticed. Make it a point to share or engage 1-2 times a week.
- Prole #2: Twitter Much less to do, but dont ignore it!
- Prole #3: Facebook This is a tough one. Avoid if you have historical posts/pictures about: Illegal drugs Staunch political or religious views Poor or foul language (even bad grammar can hurt you!) Anything you wouldnt share with a potential boss
- Change Privacy Settings
- Build Other Proles Too! LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebookmay be the Big 3 (lets be serious, does anyone really use Google+?), but they arent the only proles.

- Did You Complete Your Prole?
- Use Twitters Advanced Search Visit twitter.com/search and type in keywords that relate to: Job titles Industries Locations Companies
- Get Real Time Results
- Use Your Social Assets! Send a link to your LinkedIn, about.me or Wordpress prole to build rapport with job posters.
- Where Else to Look? Indeed.com Company websites Niche Job Boards Friends and Family Additional social networks Big job boards (if you have to)
- Apply To Companies You Love 80% of job listings are never posted, online or off. Dont be discouraged from applying to a company just because there are no jobs listed! Source: Wall Street Journal
- Keep in mind This is a numbers game, and it takes time! Set goals for yourself daily and weekly. Continuously test and improve your resume, proles, etc. Never, ever give up! You will land.
