MESSAGE FROM YOUR GRAND MASTER

MESSAGE FROM YOUR ASSEMBLY PRESIDENT

Dear Rebekah Sisters and Brothers: Holy Cow! Cannot believe how fast the past two months have gone. In October, I attended the installation of Lakeside #26 Rebekah officers and the reception of Grand Master, Bob Arthur in Excelsior. In November, I was able to have lunch with the Lakeside Rebekahs at Maynard’s in Excelsior and their meeting afterwards. Thank you so much! In November, we had an executive, membership, visual service and youth group meetings at the Grand Lodge offices in Hutchinson. The Grand Master and I have booklets available for each member and will be bringing them to lodge meetings we attend. These booklets contain historical information (and more) and may help you when trying to get new members. The Happy Home #161 Noble Grand, Judy Crandall, invited me to a meeting she had to attend at Three Links in Northfield. A nice surprise awaited me as one of our devoted Rebekahs was the chairperson - Betty Richtsmeier. The officers of Three Links and several members of the Northfield community were in attendance. Some of these people have served for over 30 years! What a special group they are and it made me proud to represent the Minnesota Rebekahs. Do hope each of you enjoyed a very Happy Thanksgiving and with Christmas fast approaching, please remember those Rebekahs who are unable to leave their homes or care centers. To all of you, have a very Blessed Christmas as well as a Happy New Year. In Friendship, Love, and Truth, Doreita Reynolds, Assembly President 2018-2019 [email protected] - 651-565-5368

Sadly, below is a picture of Donna Steele in the Hutchinson Hospital. Donna Steel, Doreita Reynolds, and Eva Steele came to stay overnight in Hutchinson on Friday, November 9th as Eva had some work to do prior to the Grand Lodge committee meetings on Saturday, November 10th. From here on out, the story lends itself to either suspicion, mischief, or both. The story goes like this, when these ladies got to the motel in Hutch, Eva lead the way into the motel, followed by Donna. Well, the sliding doors opened fine for Eva, but as Donna entered the doorway, the sliding doors closed on her and would not open, causing her to fall. She was taken to the Hutchinson Emergency Room by ambulance and eventually admitted for the night with a sprained wrist, elbow, knee, and a fractured shoulder. When the Grand Lodge and Rebekah Assembly members heard about her misfortune, they felt so sorry for her and after their meetings on Saturday, several visited Donna at the Hospital. Donna was given sufficient pain med’s that her ride home was hopefully somewhat pleasant. We are all thinking and praying for Donna’s quick recovery from this unfortunate mishap. If you want to drop her a get well card, I’m sure she would love the thoughtfulness.

Hassan Valley Lodge #109 of Hutchinson, MN were the recipients of a $2,000.00 grant from the Hutchinson Community Foundation. Receiving the grant from Hassan Valley Lodge were l to r: Dave Sebesta, Treasurer, Steve Gasser from the Foundation, and Alex Saloum, Secretary. There were about 15 organizations that received grants that totaled $35,000.00. Alex Saloum applied for Hassan Valley’s grant which is to be used to provide 10 additional kids the opportunity to attend Camp FA-HO-CHA for one week in addition to the 10 that Hassan Valley currently funds. Hopefully, Hassan Valley will be able to apply next year for a larger amount.

Unity Rebekah Lodge #129 of Paynesville, MN held their annual Christmas party on December 12, 2018 at Ron & Judy’s Restaurant in Paynesville. There were 17 guests and members that attended this event. Katy and Allen Hubred, members of Unity, were the host and hostess for the evening. After a great meal, each guest and member got to pick a card from the deck and if your number was drawn you got to select a gift that Katy had made and wrapped. There were gifts for both women and men, so needless to say, everyone got a gift. After all the gifts were opened, everyone found time to do some visiting with friends that they hadn’t seen for some time.

Left are: Stanley Whitney and Tony Nichols taking the holding tank to the island with one of the island’s pontoons. They need to have everything done by April of 2019 otherwise, they will need to file for another extension. Things look promising to have everything completed before this deadline. The Grand Lodge would like to thank all those that volunteered to help with this project on their time off. You all went above and beyond!!!

CAMP FA-HO-CHA UPDATE

15

Tony Nichols has headed up the work on the septic system at Camp FA-HO-CHA over the last two years. It has been a pain-staking task working with the County and all their rules and regulations and not to mention the weather. They have been hoping for thick ice in winter to move the sand that was needed for the drain field. Due to the thin ice the last two winters, the crew was forced to attempt carrying sand in pails on the pontoons, but this proved to labor intense. Thanks to thick ice last winter, they were able to drive the rest of the sand over to the island.

An excavator was purchased for digging and covering the mound. The excavator will stay until all work is done and the ice is thick enough to drive it off the island. Brush and trees have been cleared to make an area for the mound system and also an area was cleared where they will dig out black dirt to top the mound. They hope to finish the dirt work this fall and the electrical work in the spring.

Above are: Bill Alitz (pointing), Tony Nichols, and Stanley Whitney in the bobcat installing the holding tank. Mound system is nearly completed in background.

Above are: Stanley Whitney, Bill Alitz, and Christine Dorgan digging a line from the bathroom to the holding tank.
