Page 1 Hello 4-H Families, I hope you all had a great holiday season. We had a blessed season with a new member of our family and our exchange student. Holidays are better with kids around, that is for sure. It is so great watching them rip off paper to see what is inside. Unboxing the new gift to figure out how it works, is an exercise in patience on the part of parents and children. In the end the toys and games provide fun times of family bonding and childhood imagination. 4-H is similar to learning about all those new gifts. There are many levels in which to be involved. There are club activities. I am so proud of our clubs. They provide great opportunities from serving at community thanksgiving dinners to club recreation at Mt. LaCrosse. These opportunities build that family feeling that makes 4-H famous. Our county program supports many opportunities as well, many coming in the next couple of months. I would like to offer a brief description of these events. Clover College and Jr. Leader Lock-In: Clover College is a day camp for our youngest members(K- 2). There are six areas where Jr. Leaders (members in grades 7-12) teach short, hands-on lessons. The areas are Natural Science, Mechanical Science, Animal Science, Foods & Nutrition, Arts & Crafts, and Recreation. The day encourages young members to make friends from other clubs and from around the county. Parents are free to stay and help or to leave their youth. The Jr. Leaders put on and fund Clover College. After the little ones go home there is the Lock -in for the older youth, where they do a community service project, have a business meeting and spend social time. If your youth 7-12 grade would like to be part of Jr. Leaders email me ([email protected]) and I can add them to the remind app and email list. Festival of Arts: FoA is our celebration of the arts. We hold a stage showcase where all 4-Hers Kindergarten through 13th grade can share with an audience. There are many categories like speeches, poetry, acting, or even demonstrating a skill or process. Judges watch the performances and then offer one-on-one critiques. There is also a photo show and arts & crafts area. These items are judged one-on -one as well. The event is a great way to share your arts and talents with others. It is also a great way to build yourself confidence as you master the stage and talking with a judge about the work you do. The registration link is inside. Complete rules are in the December Cloverlink. Fur, Fin, & Feather: FFF is an annual event. This year is the 30th Anniversary show. This small animal show is open to all 4-H and FFA members in the state of Wisconsin. The main focus is on practice and learning about how to show your animals. The judges do award class placements but will also talk to youth about why the classes were ranked a certain way. There is also fun for non-showmen in the raffles and getting to see a wide variety of animals. There is a cat show, rabbit show, poultry show, and small animal show. 4-H CLUB NEWS: Giving You the Goods on the Good Work of Monroe County 4-H

Cloverbuds are invited to share posters of their animals for prizes. The small pet show is always a busy area as there can be anything from frogs to cockatoos in the cages. This is a great dry run for getting ready for fair and other exhibitions. I am still hopeful to offer a Foods & Nutrition day and a Photography day as well but am still lining up facilities and instructors. I am hoping to see many new families at our events this spring as well as returning families to keep these great 4-H activities growing. Stay tuned to the February Cloverlink to learn about statewide 4-H opportunities. In the Spirit of 4-H Joshua L. Goede Positive Youth Development Educator Jolly Joiners
