Captain’s Charity – fund raising for the charity is growing well and we have raised over £2000 already for the British Heart foundation

My Sky Dive is taking place on the 1st June 2019. Sponsorships forms are available in both the foyer and bar. If I survive this ‘leap of faith’ !! there will be a presentation on the 2nd June with a music afternoon

The Christmas period was very busy with great support for all the functions and I would like to thank everyone who attended all of these

As for the coming season good luck to all the captains for the teams and Mark Davis as the new B team captain.

This week on 3rd April our popular Wednesday Evening 10 hole competition starts and on Easter Monday we have a stableford competition; both competitions are open to all members with categories for men, ladies and juniors. After that we have the busy Summer period commencing with the Lindsay Masters.

Friendly Matches - there is a list of friendly matches in the foyer so please would any members wishing to play in these look at the dates and watch out for the sign up sheets.

So whatever level of golfer you are or

whatever category there is something for you!

The two recent shot gun competitions were very well supported, both had over 100 competitors. Great stuff!

So with the course in such great condition I would like to wish all the members a successful and fun golfing year and thank everyone for their continuing support.

The year for me started with an unfortunate BANG. Thanks to everyone for their well wishes and support, it meant a lot.

It wasn’t long before we had to prepare for the November Charity day. Members contributions were out-

standing. The Christmas Quiz was a sell out again raising £310.00. Support for the book sale was tre-

mendous raising just over £80.00. My thanks to everyone who helped, from moving furniture, do-

nating and buying books and coming to the quiz. We have collected £2,360 in total so far

Great fun was had with the children’s Christmas party. The Lady Vice Captain refused to dress as an elf

so joined us this year as an Elk! The children danced to music with bubbles, tried limbo dancing and

of course had their moment with Santa.

Ladies county competitions - This is the time of year when we are playing our Bradley Cook

County matches. As in the past few years we start with a Round Robin 5 a side home and away.

This year we have drawn Royal Blackheath and Canterbury.

We played Royal Blackheath on Saturday 9th March away and won 4/1. Great result away with

high blustery winds. We play the home match on the 28th April at 12 noon.

Matches against Canterbury are scheduled for Saturday 22nd June away 1pm and Sunday 23rd

June at home 12 noon.

Coombe Cup: Every team from Mid Kent that entered the Coombe Cup is through to the second

round. Congratulations all

Pearson Trophy : The MK Ladies team have played well, securing an excellent win in every game

played with one away game left – Nizels Friday 5th April. Support appreciated.

Alas, 6–1 home & away wins over Chestfield won’t count - they have pulled out of the competition!

THEN believe it or not, a win over Woodlands Manor - course closed, competition is null and void!

Nizels - we won at home 6:1 and play away Friday 5th April. Support welcome.

Ladies Supper, the event to kick start the new golf year, was as usual a lovely evening. Presen-

tations the Houghton Cup and Molly Copus Salver were made.

Once the formalities were completed we enjoyed a fun evening with a great meal, catered for by

Chianne and her team, music courtesy of Maxine’s and fun activities. .

John Rice, Director of Greens, writes - since the departure of Lee Sayers, your Board has had the un-

enviable task of replacing a man who had not only achieved international recognition as one of the

world’s 100 Master Greenkeepers, more relevantly had provided MKGC members with a superb

course.

After one false start, we have returned to appointing from within by selecting Darryl Manion as Course

Manager. Daryl has been at Mid Kent for nearly 20 years, many under Lee Sayers direction and is

therefore well qualified to know the standard of course expected by Members.

“Darryl is now about to complete his first six months as Course Manager and has brought the course,

with his excellent team, to the condition which is the envy of most courses in the South of England and

probably further afar as well. We’ve just had several comments from members of the PGA who visited

us last week to say that Mid Kent is by far the best they’ve encountered this year”
