Dear Parents, Carers and Children,

Following on from the our previous newsletter,

I had some great news about another former

pupil. At Coombe Dean’s recent rewards and

celebration evenings for four separate year

groups, Assistant Headteacher, Melissa

Dennis, told of her son’s, Connor, journey

through school and life that has recently seen

him land a fantastic job with the Bank of

America - one of 15 positions for which there

were over 600 applicants. In telling that

story, she praised the Goosewell staff, and in

particular the SENCO, Mrs Hampshire, who

recognised Connor's talent in Maths.

Many of us remember Connor and his sister

Jasmine with fondness and are thrilled with

the success both young people have achieved.

I am grateful to Mr Woodland, Coombe Dean’s

Headteacher, for letting me know this as a

way to acknowledge the staff who sowed the

seeds which overtime, have grown into

success.

As this tale tells, we never give up on a child

at Goosewell and aim to recognise each child’s

talent.

Have a great weekend. John M. Stephens

NHS Flu Vaccinations for Foundation,

Years 1,2,3 and 4

Thank you for returning your child’s NHS flu

vaccination consent forms. Boots will be

administering the vaccines in school on

Thursday 2nd November.

If you need to inform Boots of a change to

your child’s health or have any questions

about the vaccine or the service, please con-

tact Boots directly on: 07384 247470

Pupil Successes Well done to Megan 1NH and Bethany 2C who have both received their purple belts in

Taekwon-Do after only 5 months. Well done too to Sophie 1KW who has received her orange

belt in Doryoku Ryu Karate Justsu. Congratulations to Francesca 1NH who has received her

15 metres Rainbow Distance Award, and to Lyle 4Y who received his Life Saving Award in the

summer holidays. Congratulations too Evie 2BH who has received her Stage 4 Learn to Swim

certificate. Well done, too, to Mazie 1KW who has recently made her Rainbow Guide

Promise. Well done everyone.

Foundation Makeover

The Foundation Stage has begun its transformation. The children are busy enjoying our new

‘Doodle Den’, water play, stage area and mud kitchen.

We have a few people to thank for providing materials and also their precious time. A big

thank you to Michelle Coleman for providing pallets and a day’s painting, to Cathy Jackson for

an amazing mud kitchen, to the Jenkins family for the tractor tyre and to the Gilding family

for the mud kitchen sink. Thank you to Ben Murphy for the enormous, tyres, spools and

pallets. Thank you to Robbie Boalch for the decking, spools, sails and lots of DIY! Thanks to

Peter Taylor, Mrs Hosking’s Dad, for more finishing touches and DIY. A big thank you too to

Mr Daniels for his hovering, instructions and health and safety checks!

We are still looking for bits and bobs to complete our transformation. If you are able to

help us with sourcing any of the following, we would be very, very grateful:

old sieves, cutlery and kitchen utensils

white cotton sheets

bottle crates

spools

artificial grass/astro turf

Cross Country News The first of the Plymouth inter-schools cross country races took place yesterday at Plymbridge. Our

teams ran well with great individual and team performances; the first four in each team count to a

team result. We are delighted that every single child ran with determination and pride, and received

great support from family supporters and their teammates at the end of their 1.2 mile run with over

80 other children.

The Plymbridge race results are as follows:

Years 3 and 4 Girls: 27th Imogen, 35th Poppy,v 38th Isla, 45th Taylor, 51st, Summer, 63rd Isabel

and 64th Isabelle.

The team finished sixth tbc.

Years 3 and 4 Boys: 2nd Rory (silver medalist!), 4th Sammy, 7th Charlie, 9th Frankie, 11th Tom,

21st Edward, 23rd Matthew, 39th Harry, 43rd Will, 48th Alexander, 63rd Sam and 54th Ashdon.

The team finished first.

Year 5 and 6 Girls: 11th Kacie, 12th Grace, 13th Libby, 30th Charlotte, 32nd Daisy, 34th Jess, 35th

Esme, 38th Amber and 39th Fern. The team finished third.

Year 5 and 6 Boys: 9th Dylan, 25th Oliver, 27th Hugo, 39th Ellis, 40th Archie, 42nd William, 50th

Luca, 51st Matthew, 52nd Ben, 56th Thomas, 57th Jack and 58th Brooklyn.

The team finished fourth.

The next races will be at Eggbuckland Community College next

Wednesday.

Go Cycling

On Wednesday, a team of eight cyclists took part in a Go Ride event at

Hele’s School. The children cycled a long lap of a field in a time trial

and were then seeded to compete in a mass race with fifteen other

schools. The children had great fun and sore legs for some! They competed brilliantly and

finished 6th out of 16 teams. Well done to Dylan, Jess, Harry, Sophie, Brooklyn, Sophie, vArchie and

Chloe.

Many thanks to the parents and staff who helped transport all these children to and from these

events. The children would not have been able to take part without

you.

Please may we ask for your cooperation in an important matter. One of our pupils is receiving medical

treatment for cancer which puts them at risk if they are exposed to measles, chicken pox or shingles.

Please let us know immediately if your child is suspected of having measles.

Our pupil is also at risk from chicken pox and would need to be given an injection within three days of

contact. If you child is suspected of having chicken pox, you should let us know. It is also important

that you let us know if there is shingles in your household.

Your child is not at any risk whatsoever from this situation. However, the health and wellbeing of our

pupil who is at risk, does depend on the cooperation of all parents and we hope you can help us.

Thank you for your continued support.
