N.R.V.C. Club Calendar –, 2019 OFFICIAL CLUB MEETINGS and RUNS

By-Laws PART 8 – ISSUE OF ROADWORTHINESS TO NEW MEMBERS: New members are required to attend a minimum of three (3) club outings or events before they will be considered for the issue of RMS plates. These outings are not to include Club meetings. Any registered and roadworthy vehicle can be used for these (3) outings. Attendance must be noted in the day book. FAIRWELL TO ROSCO

On the 13th January 2019 our good mate and member John Ross Skillen (better known as Rosco) passed away peacefully at his nursing home at Bolton Point. On Thursday the 24th January 2019 he attended his last club event with approximately 50 other members gathering together for his send off at Lake Macquarie Crematorium. Rosco lived and breathed all things cars and I find it ironic that he died of a disease with a car component as part of its name, that being the terrible "Motor" Neuron Disease or M.N.D as it is better known. Rosco fought the good fight and managed to come to all our Club events with thumbs up or down as required, but eventually it became impossible for him to attend. Fortunately a lot of our members brought their club cars to him for Show and Shine at the Nursing home and a drive by at the crematorium and I know that he sure would have appreciated it. Rosco will be missed by family and friends and I will be doing a combined run in his name in the near future. He may be gone but if we all think of him now and then, then he won't be forgotten. Terry.

Most of those attending Ross’s funeral then went to Edgeworth Bowling Club for refreshments, but unfortunately it seemed that Rosco wanted to leave his mark on the leading car to make it stay back that bit longer. Once John and Doreen Bailey’s Holden Statesman had returned to the parking bay, it refused to move anymore on it’s own power and the Coil ended up the problem. The photos tell the rest of the story.

In exceptional circumstances a suitably competent person who is an NRVC member and is authorised by NRVC may conduct a Safety Inspection of a vehicle for the purpose of HVS registration in line with RMS inspection guidelines. In obtaining such an inspection the member will donate to NRVC an amount equivalent to that of the cost of obtaining an RMS approved Pink Slip.

(b) NRVC registration day will include members providing a Pink Slip for their vehicles and a dating/authentication inspection of NRVC vehicles by the Registrar or their delegates who will look at Historic eligibility guidelines such as age, period accessories and minor modifications.

NRVC Australia Day 2019 Lake Macquarie Festival

Saturday, 26th January 2019

Speers Point Park

Well, after a little bit of back and forth of arrival and set up times during preliminary planning for our

Australia Day celebration at Speers Point, Bill – with the help of the committee and Club Members - was

able to get the message across that we should start arriving at the Park from 8:00am onward.

Guess who ended up being 10 minutes late! Sorry Bill – have to get one in when we can with you. Even

Mick from Shannon’s was insisting on giving you a hard time.

Thanks yet again to Bill for his efforts with communications with Lake Mac’ Council and his ongoing

dedication in arranging NRVC events and activities for the benefit of all.

Although a scorcher of a day, support from Club Members was exceptional. Sign-on indicates we had 50

NRVC Club Members present, plus 3 visitors. 31 NRVC vehicles were on display according to Lynn’s

count, inclusive of Lynn and Steve’s trike. Thanks to Ronny we also had a boat and a billy-cart.

In addition to our own vehicles, the Studebaker Club joined us with a display of around 10 vehicles and a

gathering of their members under the trees near the lake’s edge. Fortunate for them, they had the cooler

location with the on-shore breeze lowering the temperature in their area by at least 5 degrees compared to

our location.

A note has been made for NRVC to relocate closer to the lake’s edge for next year’s event.

The Farmer’s Markets were already on-site and “happening” on our arrival at 8:00am. They were well

supported by the locals, as well as Club members, stocking up on fresh produce. Gary purchased a

wonderful “pair of melons” although a little unbalanced in size. One was a good sized rock melon, the other

a much larger watermelon!

Food vendors provided some interesting tasty delights later in the morning, positioned along each side of

the wide concrete pathway where the farmers markets have been located for some previous events.

Temperatures as high as 45 degrees were reported back from the food vendors stalls facing the

unsheltered wide, concrete walkway. As with the Studebaker Club members, the Farmer’s Market location

along the lakeside water front were the winners temperature wise.

After some very critical judging of the NRVC cars present by a guest judge – a lady security officer looking

after our location - certificates were awarded to Wayne Brentnall for his 1984 VK Commodore; Pieter and

Anne Visser for their Corolla and Michael and Jennifer Purser for their 1970 Holden One Tonner.

I would like to note a special “thank you” to Trish Morris for joining us and looking great in her bright and

colourful outfit.

By around 12:00 midday, some of our NRVC Club members started to wilt in the extreme temperature

conditions. The majority had departed by 1:00pm to cooler places – such as air conditioned lounge rooms

with a cool wine or a few cold ales.

As to be expected, the on-shore breeze across Lake Mac’ picked up – just as many of the NRVC members

left to escape the heat. A group of Studebaker Club Members had decided to “linger longer” in the beautiful

(now much cooler) setting under the trees near the foreshore. They were content chatting with one another

whilst watching the sailing and other boating taking place on the lake.

As the NRVC was the host Club for the event, Bill, Colleen and myself stayed on to eventually see the

Studebaker Club members safely off around 3:00pm. Lindsay had also settled into an adjacent cool spot

keeping a prospective new club member Stephen Jolliffe company. He has a very nice black 1938 (?) flat-

head V8 Ford four door. Steve and his family were spending the evening at the lake’s edge watching the

fireworks and enjoying the many other entertainment activities yet to come.

Aussie Day - a great day with a great bunch of people at a great venue – albeit a little too warm for most.

Registrars Report- February 2019

Since the December meeting there have been 4 inspections for Historic registration renewal and 1 for new Historic Registration. This being the Ford Mercury Cougar Coupe of new member Ken Ross. Members are reminded to keep their vehicles on Historic registration as close to

factory original as possible including non-factory wheels. Also remember to carry your membership cards and fill out your Log Book sheet when required, if in doubt fill it out. Anyone interested in going to the CHMC AGM and Rally at Griffith in May should have registered their interest to Secretary Debbie by now, but it’s never too late. A convoy of members will make their way over two days to arrive in time to participate in the Rally and then return via a different route over two days. Some are going in their modern vehicles, some towing caravans and some

in their Club cars. At the March General Meeting I will be moving a motion to make Pink Slip Safety inspections the norm for Historic Registration within NRVC.

The Roving Reporter for the above event was written by our Club-Captain Ken Barrett. The Roving Photographer on the day was Lynn Farmer. Photos and Report are very much appreciated. Thanks. Ed: Ros.

What a turnout, another Top Day with Members & Friends, thanks to Phill Illfield, for getting there early to

stake out our spot. We had 30 Cars, and 51 Members attend, where we all gathered under the trees, on the

Waterfront, that thankfully gave us a cool breeze all day. The Flags marked our Club, along with the

Gazebo’s, adorned with the signs, where the Cars of the NRVC, all had their Blue banners on the

windscreens, making us a stand out Club.

The Cars just kept coming in from 7.30am, the centre oval and surrounding trees, way down the back were

full by 9.30, but still the cars just kept arriving, at one stage we were told that they were lined up to enter, all

the way back to McDonalds at Swansea, as well as in the other direction all the way to the Pacific Highway,

Still waiting on the official Count, because the volume of cars at this event was huge, reports of between

1100 to 1500 cars on the day, a lot I had never seen before. Also the Bikes, it was a joy to see the Scooter’s

also arrive, put smiles on a lot of folk.

M.A.D. (Rickshaws Motorist Appreciation Day – Bargoed House

3rd February, 2019

Reporter Collene Kalb – Photographers – Lynn Farmer & Bill & Collene Kalb

Because there is only one road in and the same road to leave on, a traffic jam-a-rouse, which took over an

hour to clear, with the heat, some cars started to leave early, and still some cars where just arriving, thus the

bottle neck, this will be looked at for next years MAD day. We had lots of shared stories, a couple of

members even had freebies to give-away to any one that wanted them. Lots of Cheese and Bikies, lots of

shared stories, catch up with what happened over the Christmas break, New Grandchildren, Stories on

members holiday’s, these made us laugh. WE had the Stalls right down on the Water Front, then the Circle

up on the top, members mixed, took photos, talked to many, lots of fun.

We had lots of Entertainment, a Yellow two seater Sea Plane, arrived in Amazing splendour, The Pilot just

cruised into his Clubs Cars around the point, as well as 4 Jet Ski’s cruising up and down, um make that

zooming, I was going to go for a run, but the owner had taken the keys with him.

Of course the day would not be the same without the presentation of the Rare and Valuable Certificates, which went to 3 members that I call the Three Stooges, which made for a top photo, congratulations to John Taylor – HK Ute, Phill Illfied – FC Sedan, Ken Ross – Ford 2door (Mercury Cougar), you can work out who was who. Thank you to all that Attended.

The Italian Day Run, we sure had fun with the NRVC, ABOUT 280 Ks, from start to home, over all, but it felt like 2000 Ks. :-)yesterday with a Run to Ettalong Italian Galleria, now we had instructions to follow, in case we got lost, Ken & Linda Barrett organised this run. OMG talk about a Rally drive, we started off in Belmont, Next to Catherine Hill Bay, up around all the Beaches Development, back to the Pacific Highway, then into Munmorah State Recreation Area, into Birdie Beach Drive towards Elizabeth Bay, Budgewoi Road, Central Coast Highway,

across the Entrance Bridge, we followed the waterfront onto Tuggerah Parade, to Picnic Point Reserve and THIS WAS ONLY MORNING TEA STOP. :

Next after we had all filled up on yummy Brownies, cooked by Linda, and of course other cakes etc. drinks, coffee, & Loo comfort stop. off we started again, if you thought the first bit was fun, boy you were in for a surprise, even some of the members, got lost, had to double back to turn around and tag onto the end of us. But we were ok, with all the turns etc., we just followed a little RED FIAT, that is Linda Barrett's, let me tell you folks, some silly drivers out there, as well as coming across 5 - yes that is 5 lots of RBT's on the Central Coast, never seen that many before, they were doing a roaring trade. Wish I could have got a photo of one of them, 4 Police bikes parked, 2 Police Cars-Van 6 Police. Anyway, onward we go, turn right into Manning Road after leaving Picnic Point Reserve, (oh and a Ford Club turned up just as we were leaving, so no pics.). we then go to Ocean Parade, with more turns and twists to Shelly Beach, to Terrigal, along the scenic Hwy, to the Coast Road, into The Arena, around Avoca Beach, through the Car Park, as it is one way in very narrow, had to watch for cars wanting to back out to leave, some would be waiting a while due to our cars driving through. Next after more twists and turns, follow the Scenic road, for 10 Ks, through Kilcare Heights, next you guessed it, after lots more turns, we cross the Rip Bridge into Ettalong, after more turns, etc. finally arrive at our destination, Galleria, 189 Ocean View Road, Ettalong Beach. this sure made for lots of laughs, hope all had enough Petrol on this LITTLE RUN. oh the above is only part of the instructions (3 pages).I found some great objects to use.

NRVC ITALIAN DAY RUN – ETTALONG BEACH – KEN & LINDA BARRETT

REPORTER & PHOTOGRAPHER for LINDA – Collene Kalb

We had lunch, Ken and Linda had a wonderful Italian Lunch, most members went different ways etc, Bill & I decided we were so close to the Elvis Festival at Davistown RSL, we would go for a look on the way home. So more twists and turns to get there, about 15 minutes, a lot of cars had left, but Elvis was singing inside, other Elvis’s were allowing the ladies to take photos etc, might have to go to this next year, sounded like a lot of fun. ) enjoy the pics, see my Facebook page for more. Big thanks Ken and Linda Barrett for a top day.

Ah our Mid Week runs bring on lots of surprises, the details change sometimes as we travel along, we were

supposed to go to Ellalong Pub, but Lyndsay and Barbara went to the Pub to confirm their booking for us, to

find that the Pub had been sold, and the Chef had left, so they quickly checked around, The Paxton Pub was

happy to have us, being very helpful, they have also generously donated some items to the NRVC for

Raffles, more on that later. Well everyone assembled at Maccas at Edgeworth, 21 people and 14 Cars to get

their instructions on the Route, deciding on a leader, and with us coming up the rear just in-case someone

had a problem as we were in the BMW, and to make sure that all arrived safely. Off we go heading out

through Edgeworth, turning at the round-a-bout to travel up to Mulbring Park for Morning Tea.

We arrive at the Park, everyone pulled out the Yummies, Pastries, Chocolate Mud cake, Assorted Teas, and

Coffee, then talk turned to GOSSIP, a couple of bits I will share with you, Lynne & Rob Garrett has a new

Grandson, Jarvis Dean who is now 2 weeks old. Noleen Purser talked about when she was in her teens, Her
