Originally built in 1903 in the Edwardian Classical style, complete with channeled brick and radiating vousisoirs framing arched windows and entrances, the Mooney Biscuit and Candy Factory defined the entrepreneurial spirit of the time.

Operating as the largest factory of its kind in Canada, it was lit with its own electricity, powered by its own steam and was the only firm in the country to own and operate its own railroad car with a spur line connecting it to the national railway. Today historical details like the Turnbull and barrel elevators are still defining features of this Industrial Edwardian Classic.

It was in this spirit that successive enterprises built their own legacies on 245 Downie Street such as The Bradshaw Lofts namesake, J.L. Bradshaw, one of Canada’s oldest wholesalers.
