Happy Independence Day!

We have some wonderful news to share about grants that we recently received:

St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea Hospital awarded the Chelsea and Grass Lake Senior Centers generous grants from their Community Benefit Fund to support our programs that encourage wellness and aging in place. Please be sure to thank the hospital Board and staff for their continued support of our mission!

The Ann Arbor Community Foundation awarded a grant to support the Senior Nutrition Program in Chelsea. Our annual contract with Washtenaw County to administer this program has not fully funded the actual cost of staff time, supplies, and containers for Meals on Wheels. This grant will help sustain this important program that served over 30,000 senior meals last year.

The Jackson Community Foundation awarded the Grass Lake Senior Center a grant to support growth and future sustainability. This grant is very much needed for increased operational costs to support a third day and more evening programs.

We are glad to have this widespread support of our mission. Both Chelsea and Grass Lake Senior Centers strive to provide meaningful and diverse opportunities for older adults to age well, with dignity and purpose. Please be sure to recognize all of our funding agencies, sponsors, and donors for their support throughout the year!

at 1:00 pm Lily and the Octopusby Steven Rowley

This is a story about that special someone: the one you trust, the one you can’t live without. For Ted Flask, that someone special is his aging companion Lily, who hap-pens to be a dog. Lily and the Octopus reminds us how it feels to love fiercely, how difficult it can be to let go, and how the fight for those we love is the greatest fight of all. Copies of the book are available in the office. When you finish reading your borrowed copy, please return it to the office.
