“Most people have an understanding of the Private Sector as the place where wealth is created and the Public Sector’s role in governance, infrastructure, and the safety and security of citizens. Over the last several years, the Third Sector has come to be known as the Independent Sector, emphasizing the relationship of its work in a civil society. Today, the Independent Sector is also a catalyst in the creation and execution of cross-sector partnerships to provide flexible economic and policy solutions to social and civic challenges and problems.”

– Mark Brewer, 2014-2015 Chair, myregion.org

Next Generation. The Independent Sector Steps Up. Communities of Interest Connect for Impact, Respond to Regional Priorities, and Leverage Research and Data.

What is Changing? The Executive, “C-suite” level of the Independent Sector is stepping up to lead and energize myregion.org, share and compare vital data, connect and engage stakeholders, and provide the Central Florida Partnership and the Region with the research and civic connectivity required to take on Central Florida’s toughest challenges.

Florida has more than 4,000 active grant-making foundations and corporate givers. In 2010, these grantmakers held almost $20 billion in charitable assets and granted almost $1.4 Billion.1

With more than 630,000 individuals engaged in their enter-prises, including 380,000 employees (and 250,000 FTE vol-unteers), Florida’s Independent Sector is the fourth largest employer among Florida industries.2

A decade ago, the myregion.org strategy3 called for decisive leadership from, and a governance platform for, CEO leaders from the not-for-profit/philanthropic community organizations. This call to action is being met with this step.

How Does myregion.org do Business in the Future? As the primary way to connect the civic community, conduct regional research, and support regional resolutions, myregion.org will take on many elements of Central Florida’s Regional Priorities4. Over 650 leaders engaged in identification of these Priorities and their Prospectus, now the policy of the Central Florida Partnership, requires the counsel, research, and outlooks of a reimagined myregion.org. As myregion.org expedites its transformation to take on the Priorities, four elements are of immediate concern:

1. Common, consensus scorecards or measures for Regional Priorities – The Region has called for Globally-relevant Measures of Success

2. Strategies to address the research and resource needs of the Region, including Regional FORUMS, Transportation, Talent, and building and measuring Social Capital

3. Linkages and protocols regarding sharing outlooks and data between and among members of the civic community

4. Ensuring flexibility and resources to see and respond to changing economic, environmental, and policy conditions

Social Capital is the primary ingredient of prosperous and livable communities. It is embodied in the

network of social connections and shared values and norms that exist between people, and enables

and encourages mutually advantageous social cooperation, measurement, and action. All three

sectors are necessary in the development of social capital, but it is the core purpose or

mission of Independent Sector enterprises.

myregion.org is one of four “Lines of Business” by which the Central Florida Partnership focuses on “Regional Research and Resolves.” By identifying and examining the changing demographics and powerful trends that are shaping the Central Florida Region - myregion.org is helping to identify the issues and challenges that affect our future. Working together with Orlando, Inc., (Regional Entrepreneurship), BusinessForce (Public Policy Advocacy), and Leadership Orlando (Regional Leadership), the Central Florida Partnership is moving “Ideas to Results.”
