Where will the new school be located?
An option assessment was undertaken by Comhairle nan Eilean Siar during 2008 which resulted in the decision to site the school on land bounded by the Matheson Road and Sandwick Road. This ensures close ties to the facilities of the sports centre and maintains the school’s presence in the area where it has been for over 136 years.

What facilities will be provided?
Every department of the school will have new facilities. The retained listed buildings will accommodate a computer technician’s base, and potentially the technical department. Full details of exact layouts will be developed with the school over the coming months and it is intended that some facilities will be available to the public through the Comhairle’s Schools’ Lets Policy.

How will the school be affected?
Careful consideration has been given to minimising the disruption to the running of the school. The site will be separated from the school for safety and operations and traffic movements strictly managed to reduce nuisance from noise and dirt. Some temporary accommodation may be required during the construction process. These plans will be developed in conjunction with the school and Comhairle.

How will the public be affected?
Temporary arrangements will be made to manage traffic and parking in and around the new school site. Safety will be the prime concern at all times and plans will be developed in conjunction with the Comhairle’s Road Safety Officer.

When will the new school be open?
It is hoped that the design and planning process will allow a tender to be issued in the Autumn of 2009, with construction starting in 2010. The new school would then be open by Autumn term 2012.
