Participating SolicitorsDon’t miss out…The number of Wills available from each solicitor is limited. Last year appointments filled up very quickly, so make sure you contact your chosen solicitor as soon as you can to book your place for September.

How your donation will make a difference All money raised through our Make a Will Fortnight goes towards helping us to care for and support people living with an advanced or terminal illness, in West Surrey and part of North East Hampshire.

• Your donation of £250 could pay for Jo (pictured) to attend Day Hospice for a week, where she could receive advice and support from our nurses and other staff, and socialise with others in a friendly and welcoming setting.

• Your donation of £350 could pay for ten counselling sessions, where patients and relatives can share feelings and emotions they might not be able to discuss with others, and get one-to-one support.

We care for over 250 patients, carers and relatives every day, but with only 20% of our costs covered by the NHS/Government, we need to raise over £20,000 each and every day to provide these vital services, which we offer free of charge.

Have you been thinking… ‘I really need to make a Will’?Making a Will is one of the most important things you can do, ensuring your wishes are known and your property and possessions go to the people and causes you care most about. Having a Will in place is a great weight off your mind, and it protects your loved ones from the stress of dealing with the financial and legal issues associated with intestacy (dying without a valid Will).

If you already have a Will, it is important to keep it up-to-date, so if you have recently married or divorced, become a parent or grandparent, lost a spouse or relative, retired or moved house, now is the time to update your Will.

During Make a Will Fortnight, you can receive a professional consultation from a local solicitor and a new basic Will or an updated Will, in return for a donation to Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice Care.

1. Choose a solicitor from the list provided and arrange an appointment with them directly in the fortnight between 10th - 22nd September. The number of available appointments is limited, so please contact your chosen solicitor as soon as possible to secure your place.

2. Make a note of your assets (property, possessions or money) together with a list of people and organisations you would like to remember in your Will.

3. At the initial meeting, you will discuss your wishes with your solicitor, and they will advise you about anything you may have overlooked, and make sure your Will is valid and legally binding. The solicitor will tell you if it can be done as a ‘basic’ Will under this scheme. If you have a large estate or your circumstances are complicated, your solicitor will tell you what can be included under this scheme and give you a separate price for the remaining work.

4. The solicitor will then prepare your Will based on your instructions, and will let you know how much the firm would normally have charged for preparing the Will. They are giving their time free of charge.

5. They will then give you a Phyllis Tuckwell donation form to complete, with a suggested donation of £250 for a new basic Will, or £350 for mirror Wills.

6. There is no obligation to include a gift to Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice Care in your Will. The solicitors will however be able to advise you about the tax effectiveness of gifts in Wills and we hope if it’s possible for you to do so, that you may consider supporting us in this way.

*As a guideline, a basic Will covers an estate which does not require detailed inheritance tax advice, has no assets outside the UK and a limited number of beneficiaries. It does not include setting up Trusts or other devices, which would be charged separately by the solicitor.
