THE O. HUGO SCHUCK AWARD By Allen Tannenbaum
Introduction Holding a PhD in mathematics from Harvard
University, Allen Tannenbaum has served as a professor at universities in the United States and abroad for nearly four decades. Active in research, he has written hundreds of papers and articles published by numerous respected peer-reviewed journals. In 2007, Allen Tannenbaum’s paper, entitled, “Tracking deformable objects with unscented Kalman filtering and geometric active contours,” earned him an O. Hugo Schuck Award from the American Control Conference (ACC).
About O. Hugo Schuck Award Presented on an annual basis, the O. Hugo
Schuck Award is given to the authors of the two finest papers presented at the previous year’s ACC. The awards recognize contributions to theory and to innovative applications, respectively. To be considered, papers must have been presented at the ACC by an awardee or a coauthor. The candidates are judged on a variety of criteria, including technical influence, timeliness, practicality, and the overall quality of each paper’s written and oral presentation.
