Life In An Ocean The Ocean biome is the worlds largest biome. Life in the ocean is very diverse. The smallest ocean creature is so tiny that it can only be seen under the powerful light of a microscope. The largest creature in the ocean is a blue whale that can grow up to 34 meters ( 110 feet). They are also different in the way they travel, some travel hundreds of miles in there lifetime while the others live on the same underwater surface for there entire lives.

• Ocean’s are not the same everywhere in fact all ocean are different, depending on the water temperature and life. The temperature of the water depends on where it is located. When sunlight breaks through the top layer of the ocean surface its rays can reach up to 200 meters deep. Almost all living ocean creatures, 90% live on that part of the surface.

Ocean’ s differences

• The Ocean biome is the worlds largest biome. Like ponds and lakes, the different parts of the oceans are separated into separate zones: intertidal, pelagic, abyssal, and benthic. The Intertidal ocean is where the ocean meets the land, like a beach. In this zone you can find crabs, shorebirds and clams. The Pelagic zone is the zone that’s found further out in the ocean, basically the open ocean. The pelagic zone is mostly cold water and there can be mammals, and other type of fish found here.

• The benthic is under the pelagic zone of the ocean, but not include the deepest parts of the ocean. Here you can find sand, slit and dead/ decaying organisms. This part of the ocean is colder and there can also be fish, starfish and algae.

• The deepest part of the ocean is called the abyssal zone. This region is very cold and can reach temperatures of just above freezing, it is also very high in oxygen levels but low in nutrients. Bacteria and some types of fish can be found here.
