Communications Network Upgrades
The NWS is undertaking a major project to upgrade its networks and optimize the communications infrastructure to resolve weaknesses and gaps. The OCONUS Network Upgrade & Optimization Project: Designed to increase bandwidth to ensure the NWS’s terrestrial telecommunication infrastructure supports the delivery of critical weather data to internal and external stakeholders. A near-term network upgrade will bring increased bandwidth and “Trusted Internet Connections and Access Providers” (TICAP) compliance for NWS field sites throughout Alaska and Pacific Regions. The main focus is on fixing and maintaining NWS operational networks and delivering short-to-medium term capability and reliability upgrades and improvements. It will also address network single point of failure vulnerabilities.
