Refined Student ministries is all about growing into a better relationship with Christ. We take real life situations and turn them from a normal situation to an encounter with Christ. Our goal is to help students understand that being on fire for God is not boring or is not a chore; it is a privilege. Our understanding of who God is is very limited and all we want to do is help our students understand as each day goes on who they are in Christ and who Christ is. At the end of the day, we all like to have fun, but the truth is, we have a responsibility to serve as well. What God wants is to help other people understand, and we fail when we choose to keep the good news about God to our group of friends and family. Ultimately our goal is to love God with all of our hearts, souls, minds, and all of our strength; and love people in the same way.

Some things we have coming up is our Amazing Race event and our Halloween Party. On October 12th at 7pm we will start our Amazing Race event with a cookout, and the students will have the opportunity to spend a night at the Baskaron House because of the late night activities that’ll be involved around the town. The event will continue in the morning for more challenges and fun, and the event will finish at 2pm on Saturday the 13th. Students will arrive at the church at 7pm on Friday and they will be picked up at the church at 2pm the next afternoon.

Also, our Halloween party for students will be on the Sunday night before Halloween, October 28th. There will be food, games, and a bunch of candy! That’ll start at 5pm.

Worship Notes

Worship doesn’t always look like we think it does.

This month, we had the tremendous opportunity to serve others who have lost nearly everything to hurricane Florence. Esther and I had the unique opportunity to take a group of 20 juniors and seniors from Alamance Christian School to help with relief. God provided so many opportunities to serve and help, but He also provided the opportunity for us to worship Him in different ways than what we normally think. How many of us think that we could worship Jesus by cutting down a tree? Or by ripping out some nasty, moldy drywall? Or by tarping a roof that is now leaky? Or by hauling years’ worth of possessions off to the dump to be thrown away?

We normally think of singing and reading the Bible as our formal acts of worship, and we think that these are most meaningful to God. However, Matthew 25 paints a much different picture. Jesus will say at the final judgment that whatever we did to the least of men, to the poor and needy, to the hungry and thirsty, we did it to Him. God is calling us to worship Him in Spirit and in Truth. The Truth is found in Matthew 25. If we are unwilling to do the things spoken of in verses 31-46, then we will be lumped in with the goats – the unbelievers. It is not the Father’s heart that any should perish, however too often we get so hung up in our own self focus that we forget we are not our own and we have been bought with a price. Choose you this day whom you will serve.

Thursday, October 4 – Seniors will visit the Morehead Planetarium. See Dan for more information.

GET CONNECTED @ BCC HEY everybody.... Our amazing BCC INVOLVEMENT MINISTRY TEAM has created a really cool place for everyone to see what's happening at BCC and find a way to get involved. Please stop by our new 'Ministry Connection Corner' (near the cafe') and get plugged in.... Help others connect as well.... Great Work People!!

Sunday School/Small Groups This month Jackie Davis will be in the nursery (Room 10A) during the SS hour.

Shirley Sanders will be teaching Busy Bees class this month in Room 1B. The children will be learning about Elijah and Elisha.

In Kids For Christ the kids will be learning how to “Stand up for God”. Hope Konzelman will be teaching this month in Room 5B.

The teens will be upstairs over the auditorium with youth leader Jacob Baskaron.

There are 2 classes for the adults to choose from each Sunday: the Topical class located in the Fellowship Hall, or the Seekers class led by Dan Stipetich in Room 11A (by the auditorium).

October Missions News Mid-Atlantic Christian University has a record 215 students registered for the fall taking 2,785 hours of courses (also a record), but it’s caused them to have to make changes to their routine and buildings to accommodate the growth. They are asking us to pray for wisdom as they pray that they can continue to grow to impact the world for Jesus.

CICM-Central India Christian Mission continues to work on the hospital expansion adding 100 beds, a Cath Lab, and CT Scan, with over half of the money needed already pledged. They estimate it will serve over 100,000 people per year once completed. Josh Howard (Ajai Lall’s son-in-law) is working with leaders in Sri Lanka and Bangladesh this summer to develop a plan to train leaders, with the goal to double the number of leaders (to 2,716) and churches to (3,385) in the next two years. Josh and Ajai Lall will both speak at the International Conference on Missions in Cincinnati, OH held November 15-18.

This week we saw how first-hand how IDES-International Disaster Emergency Services helps work through our churches at the Two

Rivers church in New Bern, NC. They provided a tool truck for people to use to remove the sheetrock, flooring, and anything else damaged by the flood. They were also in the process of deploying a shower station for those without water and for the workers like us.

Sermon Notes – September 30, 2018

They also have sheds for people to store salvaged goods as they clean out their damaged homes. We personally saw many homes where people lost everything they didn’t take with them. IDES

offers help and hope like this all over the world as they share the love of Christ.
