Beatboxing like a champion

The Beatboxer takes advantage of the natural proximity effect of a microphone. In the process the bass frequency range can be raised to 10/15dB, which causes the sound to be extremely powerful if the microphone is held very near to the mouth or even pressed to the lips.

In order to amplify the high tones appropriately, the mic has to be held very close to the nose to get a crystal clear high hat orcymbal simulation.

In most day-to-day type club situations, three mics would

work with great results, usually kick, snare and overhead or kick and two overheads. Remember

dynamics on drums and con-denser for hat and cymbals. This

is a good basic rule to follow.

On the other hand, close miking is often used for a more precise and controllable, in your face presence: thus a mic on every drum

plus the high hat and two overhead mics for stereo imaging.
