The Presidential address by Sri V.G. Ramdoss, Sourashtra Munnettra Kazhagam (SMK)The very much expected the very first Global Sourashtra Meet 2012 (a two

days’ conference) was held on Saturday & Sunday, 4th & 5th August, 2012 at theViraganuur Ring Road 'Maidan', Madurai-9 in a very big stage decorated withornamental works in such a way to accommodate a large number of people on it.It is witnessed that thousands of people thronging from various small and big citiesin and around Tamilnadu and from other states joined the conference. It is alsoobserved that a large number of NRI Sourashtras from New York, California, NewJersey and from other States of U.S., Japan, Singapore and Malaysia, etc wereseen. The venue was so prepared to accommodate at least 50,000 people anygiven time but it was noticed that many of the people were standing out side the‘pandal’ for want of seats. A large of stalls were kept open to entertain our visitors.Commercial products, household articles, eatables, coffee bars, medical campsheds were seen busy with the people in and around every stall.

SIDDASHRAMAM, MADURAIThe 90th Jayanthi Vizha of Sri Sidda Narahari Guruji was held at Siddashramam

premises, Teppakulam West, Madurai-9. In the 1st day function, on 29.07.2012 the Om-kaaram flag was hoisted followed by the lighting of the lamp with prayer. The devotionalsongs were recited for about 2 hours by the women-folk headed by Smt. S.P. GeethaBharathi. The audience were completely drenched by the above music-rain (BhakthiInnisai Mazhai!) according to Erode Sri K.R. Krishnamachari who reports on the abovefunction.

The Tamil and Telugu kiirthanas of Sriman Natanagopala Nayagi Swamigal,Venkataramana Bhagavathar and Annamacharya, ‘Meera’ songs ofSmt. M.S. Subbulakshmi, tamil saahityams of V.N. Nagaraja Bhagavathar and‘kuraiyonrumillai marai moorthi kaNNaa’ of Senior Statesman Rajaji were some of theattractive musical programs of the above women-folk music team.

Sri K.R. Krishnamachari also recommends the women-folk music team headed bySri S.P. Geetha Bharati for being invited by other sourashtra sabhas and organizationsfunctioning in various towns and cities in Tamilnadu and in other States.

WHAT NEXT?GLOBAL SOURASHTRA MEET 2012

The Meet was held on 4th/5th August 2012 at Madurai. Itsucceeded beyond the expectations of all. The organisers, the donorsand the participants all deserve the gratitude of the community forholding this conference in such a large scale and grand manner.

(I remember a similar successful conference held atKumbakonam in 1947 when I was 15 years old and served as avolunteer for the Mahanadu).

A number of important resolutions were passed unanimouslyduring the conference regarding several issues relevant to ourcommunity. The Central Government, the State Government and other organisationswere requested to give their support for implementing these resolutions for the benefitof our community.

The community members who attended the Meet in such overwhelming numbersand expressed their backing and support to the organisers dispersed with high hopesthat the organisers would take speedy actions to start the needed follow up for theimplementation of the resolutions. They are anxiously waiting for the news about thesefollow up activities which, unfortunately are not forthcoming even after a month ofthe Meet.

Surely the President, Secretary and other members of the organising committeeneed some time to relax after months of toil in conducting the Meet.

It is hoped that by now they must have started further activities, but not publicisedthe same. It is requested that the internet website of the Meet may be used to postthe activities going on and future plans to make use of the enormous goodwill andenthusiasm as well as expectations generated in the large population of our community.
